Gayle Bradley 2

Thanks for the heads up on the pre-order. I have one of the originals and am quite happy with it just the way it is. I like the re-design on the GB2 as well, although I would have been OK with solid liners, less crud collection, and the overall weight was never an issue with me. That said, solid Ti liners would reduce the weight but it would increase the cost as well, I'm fairly certain I will be happy with the GB2, time will tell.

this +1

I took down my GB several times and it's extremely easy to take apart and put back together. That or a compressed can of air :)

Here's how I had my GB modded to give full access to the Spydie hole and liner lock like God intended for all knives. Seriously, its a joy to get a full purchase on the Spydie hole instead of just getting 60% of your finger in there. Same with the liner lock.

Well done, I'm doing the same mod but on both sides, I don't mind the hidden lock release but it's a write off if you have any type of gloves on.

I want to open both side to expose the speed hole completely and take in the end of choil on the presentation side slightly, I feel that's a better spot for releasing the lock and the knife tang drops down to hit my thumb nail, if I use the intended release spot, the knife drops down and the edge is cutting into my nail (any one else find this?)

I actually don't find any improvements on the GB2, the functionality isn't improved in the 2nd generation, the blade material/shape/grind are all the same, just a tad slimmer and narrower... Not sure if that's a good thing for the intended purpose, then again, the original GB is an overkill in making a super knife IMO. So I don't think slimmer and a tad shorter will make the GB2 less effective but as far as being improvements, I don't think so. Same story with the handle, slightly shorter and narrower again aren't improvements to me but more of a marketing scheme, to have something "new" to the market. If I haven't own the GB and am buying, the. I do believe the GB2 is every bit as good as the predecessor and not better,.
I think the only way to improve the GB is to give it a set of KVT bearing and a slightly stronger detent, leave everything else alone.
Spyderco should have keep the GB in production and introduce a slightly smaller version like they did with Military and PM2 and now the rumor PM3.
I'm pretty sure every one that owns the GB will buy a 2.96" blade GB with 4" handle, I would buy 2!
The GB Air is too small, they need to up the side a little bit and put a clip on it before I would give them my money
Just my 2 cents

Too "occluded"?

WTF was Spyderco thinking for yet again making a knife other than how you prefer?

The GB could have been right up there with my favorites. Great feel, fit & finish, attractive blade, but...it's not left hand friendly. Hard to jamb my left thumb into that small crevice in the liner to lever over the lockbar.

How do you see the new GB? Is it new and improved or just a couple of cosmetic changes that have nothing to do with liner lock access?
For a righty, the GB is a dream knife...not so much for the 10% of us knife addicts who use the wrong hand, IMHO.

The GB1 is great the way it is. I have no problem disengaging the lock.
The GB2 is a reimagining of the original. It doesn't look better to me but it looks good and I want one. I'm curious to find out if it will feel less substantial. They shaved an ounce off the original so I guess that means the liners are thinner.

I think it's only lighter because they skeletonized the liners. AFAIK the thickness is the same.

I'm boycotting this one because it does not incorporate a cutout to give good access to the liner lock and Spydie hole. I must be deranged, because I don't easily tolerate a Spydie hole that's partially covered by the scales. Makes no sense to me.

You really wouldn't like my GB then; I made full width G10 scales for it so the liners don't show at the edges... Still easy to thumb & middle finger flick though.:D:cool:

It would depend if you're looking at the first gen GB1 or second gen; the first gen had solid liners and the second skeletonized so the weight is different.

The weight savings can't just be thinner scales I don't think...so it must be thinner liners, right? Or a thinner blade.

Looks like it will be the same width from scale to scale. The slimmer handle is a plus, and more of a guard from the blade is great. Im super excited about this and hoping that it shows up sooner than later!

Same blade thickness and longer at 3.6 and no lanyard hole.... the swedge is also bigger so that is weight savings. How much thinner is the handle from scale to scale? I like the substantial feel of the original GB

Sorry for using a Big Boy word. It means obstructed. Blocked. Not easily accessed.

When you buy more Spydercos than me, you can tell me what to think. Until then, I still prefer full access to the Spydie hole. The Native's Spydie hole, for example, is partially blocked by the scales, and I own 5 of those suckers, so its not a total deal breaker. But its a design element that I don't care for, just like I wouldn't buy a pair of Levy's with the pockets sown half shut.

Just because you own so many shouldnt give you any sense of entitlement. You are certainly welcome to buy what you want and not buy what you don't like.

I'm quite aware of what occluded means. I was merely surprised that you didn't use it; it usually accompanies complaints you have regarding a knife's design.

And, sheesh, you do own more knives than I do, whatever was I thinking?

I bought a second GB and it came unexpectedly with a lockbar mod. I never had a problem before and comparing side by side I think it is a wash. I notice very little improvement in lockbar disengagement, but the grip when open doesn't suffer from the mod. I won't be doing it to my original GB, but don't mind at all that the other one is like that. As far as middle finger opening, the GB is superb IMO.

Watch Spydercos "Meet your Maker with Gayle Bradley" he explains his reasoning for not including a cutout in the design.

One of my requirements of a folder is that it must be both right and left hand friendly .
I'm right handed but there are times when it is essential to use a knife left handed .
I find your comments strange because the GB is one that I have no problems with closing left handed .
I've found the GB needs a different technique to close no matter what hand your using but once mastered its very easy .
