I mailed two new knives, one BM Presidio, and one ZDP-189 Endura 4 to Tom Krein for regrinding/reprofiling about three weeks ago.

Tom hasn't received the knives yet which at this point makes me think some sticky-fingered public servant saw "Krein Knives" on the label and decided to supplement his salary with some tax-free goodies.

My mistake was not getting insurance or getting tracking for this. I'm out about $150, which I can live with, but NEVER trust the USPS with anything over $50 bucks.

Now I realize that most postal workers are honest, hard working Americans, but all it takes is one bad one in the branch!

It is always worth the extra $$$ to ship priority and at least pay for delivery confirmation. Sucks about your knives, maybe they will show up.

karma will ge whoever took them, its just a matter of time. I have shipped a knife to Krein as well and he hasnt recieved it yet either I don't think. I might be out my bm 710. The 100 bucks I can live with but I am really sad because this was a special knife to me. Was a great user, and ill miss it :(

You all should know which forum this sort of complaint goes in by now.

We even have a sticky in FEEDBACK on how to ship knives. Good packing and good labelling goes a long way towards a good delivery.

Why would you NOT get insurance and DC?
Insurance and delivery confirmation are a good way to protect your shipment and keep your mind at ease and are relatively cheap, especially when compared to the possibility of losing your shipment. It also gives the USPS a better way to find out what happened to your parcel should it go astray.
Did you pack it well? Too many people ship knives in the padded or cardboard envelopes, fail to secure the items within them and fail to secure all entry/exit points with tape, and then wonder why the knives fell out, their shipment got lost or damaged. You should always use a sturdy box, use plenty of tape and take the time to make sure the box is labeled properly with the correct addresses.

It really isnt fair to accuse USPS of theft, unless you know for sure, especially when the delivery failure could well be caused by something you did or didnt do.

Contact your postmaster with the specifics and see if theres any way they can help.

Are you sure there wasn't any insurance at all? Even the cheapest possible shipping from the post office includes $100 insurance.

The Postal Service does really well 99% of the time. They even move mail on Sunday. I had a Spyderco sent to me by a member here Saturday morning, priority and it's arrived at my post office today.
Never ship with no insurance and use delivery conformation. Just because you have no trouble most of the time is no reason to ship anything worth over 50 dollars without insurance. Even on the cheap stuff I want delivery conformation. It's less than a dollar and lets you see when your package is showing up.

What the heck is going on! I'm sure this stuff happnes all the time but KnivesShipFree sent me a Bark River Bravo-1 with a custom handle on 8/29 via USPS and the thing still hasn't arrived. I'm afraid this one is lost as well.

I shipped EIGHT flat rate boxes out, as I have before many times, (at least a 100 one or two at a time). Only difference was there were 8 this time. Then they have ALL disappeared. We have witnesses as to them being loaded on USPS van. But they have disappeared. I am taking tracking down to main office today. Here is a link to the first post I made concerning this problem to the guys I was shipping the contest winners boxes of G-11.

This is scary stuff! I haven't suffered any losses so far, but on Friday I recieved an Anza Boddington from a fellow forum member, packaged in a flat-rate box, and one end flap of the box was completely open!! The knife was there, and in fine condition, but it seemed nothing short of a miracle that it had not been taken.

Delivery Confirmation only demonstrates that the package was delivered somewhere, but not necessarily at the intended address.

I once shipped a large package to a buddy in NY via Priority and took a little over a week/7 business days to get there. Just be patient....sometimes they do there job and other times they sit on shit just to fugg with your stress levels.

Most likely, they are all stuck with a few hundred other pieces, on a piece of olling equipment shoved behind others that came in later, hidden from the daily operation.

This is why the last thing I do before mailing is to tape around all three directions with glass-filled tape.

It also shows that postal employees aren't all out to steal everything they can :)

What it does show, though, is that the mail isn't stuck in limbo somewhere, like JatMat's.

Like Esav says, use tape and pack stuff well. Also only use Priority or Express mail for items of value.
Always get delivery conformation with Priority. And never put Knife or Knives on the label!

USPS has done very well by me and for a lot of years.

Mine was just that Esav, found today in a rolling buggy at the first PO it hit after being picked up. I went to PO with tracking today and told them I had witnesses of them picking the 8 up, they "found" the boxes. Shoved out of the daily routine. They are now on their way.

More to it, but too long story, it is all good now.

I have shipped many knives worth many $$ via the USPS and have never had a problem.
And Jill makes a good point, even though branches are closed on Sunday, mail moves 7 days a week.

I favor USPS over any of the other carriers. Only had one incident, but it was returned and all ended well. For $5 usd and 2-3 day delivery, you just can't beat that :)

I'm glad you were able to poke them into finding them!

One of my pet peeves in the service. As more mail comes in, it's supposed to be rolled BEHIND the earlier mail. Lazy workers push the mail to the wall, and roll later mail in front of it. A week later, they are still rolling more current mail in front of the old mail.

Makes that $3.00 you saved seem like less of a bargain, doesn't it?

The USPS has never lost a knife I've mailed (or bought off eBay for that matter) and there have been a couple hundred of them.
