GEC #15 Boys... Help me decide

Sarah, I like those clip point bare head jacks. I prefer that pattern to bolsters on both ends.

Good news for me, bad news for my wallet.

I guess this probably doesn't make the decision of which one to buy any easier :p

My two bladed red bone #15 arrived today. I still need to take some picture but it went right into my pocket. The pull is really pretty smooth and not a nail breaker even when reaching down to pull the main blade out. F&F looks amazing and the edge is even somewhat sharp. Overall it's smaller than I imagined but that works out perfectly.

I dont know but they just dont look right to me without the both ends bolstered

I agree with Alex, the lines of barehead handle with that ebony covers are giving the knife a real classic design and look.

That makes me interessted in that...

I love the simplicity of this pattern and the fact that they're not offering it in a bazillion covers. I'll be very happy to have rust red (spear) and barehead ebony (clip), both single blade. The clean swell-end lines, steel liners, and satin blade finishes are such a great combo.

These look really great bare headed. I really hope that GEC does a run of the Ebony Bare Headed Jacks with the Spearpoints as well.

I wonder why they added a fourth pin, too. I hope they weren't warping.

I was wondering about the fourth pin as well. Maybe it has something to do with the two different types of ebony wood that was used? I'm not sure about this, but maybe this run of #15 Boy's knives were done with the gabon ebony wood that Charlie sourced for the latest run of TC Barlows. Does anybody know the answer to this? Maybe Charlie will chime in.

The first release of Spearpoint TC Barlows and Spearpoint #15 Boy's Knives were done using Macassar ebony wood and not the Gabon ebony wood which was used on the latest run of the Clip blade TC Barlows.

I belive the Clip Blade Boy's Knives are Macassar Ebony. And the TC Barlow Clip Blades were Gabon Ebony.

nail = end pins that go completely through, holding the knife together
backspring = center pin that goes completely through
cover = pins that just go through the slab and liner to hold the slab on the knife

Lay the old spear model down beside the new clip model and look at them. There are 2 nails, 1 center pin, and 2 cover pins on the end-capped spear model; there are 2 nails, 1 center pin, and 2 cover pins on the bare end model. It just looks different because on the bare end there is a nail holding the slab on thus extending the distance between cover fasteners enough to justify another top cover pin. So, since the distance between any pin that holds the covers was increased 1/4" approx. on the bare end model, it is just good design to implement another cover pin. It has nothing to do with the slab material itself.

Bob is right on though, the Gabon was sourced by Charlie and only used on the TC model.

Check out the new jigged red bone bare headed ones. Seriously, put a shield on it and some patina and it's a trip in the wayback machine ..... That's my next one.

I guess this Boys Knife isn't popular as we thought it would be. Very few pictures in this thread and there are still many varieties (number of blades and type of covers) available from multipe dealers.

It's a great little knife. I thought there'd be more interest.

For me, it's just that it isn't really that different from the first run of boy's knives and the second-run Charlows I already have. It's kind of like of like a combination of the two, but not actually different enough for me to get one.

That just might be the thinking of quite a few guys Blaine. I noticed in this thread that many of the guys that just can't help posting pictures of their newest knives only commented about these Boys Knives but hadn't bought any - so, from that standpoint the absence of pictures is understandable.

I've got a Boys Knife (2-blade, barehead) on the way and when it gets here, I'll post some pictures of it alongside my Toms Choice 2-blade, barlow - both in ebony.
