GEC 25s - Gots 'em?

I received my EZ open Bulldog today from Mike Latham. It's a GEC 25 pattern made in 2009.
Smooth red bone, carbon steel, sheepfoot blade.

Here's some pics.....

It's nekkid!

(No nail nick.)

:D

Looks good, and of course no nail nick's needed with the sheepsfoot + easy open crescent.

This is the first I've seen (or noticed?) a horizontally-oriented serial number on the bolster as well.

Thanks for the pics!

I have looked through this thread a few times admiring all the nice knives. I liked the looks of the little '25s but never considered seriously buying one. Luckily I was recently able to trade for this little beauty. As usual, I had no idea what I was missing out on.

I Offered it to my lovely wife but she said the back springs were a little strong for her. The springs are just about perfect for me tho. I spent a few minutes sharpening it up then dropped it in my pocket.
It has that super solid feel that I have come to expect from GEC. Fit and finish are very good and it of course just disappears in my pocket. I think what surprises me the most about it is how comfortable it is to hold and use.
I have never really been a fan of wharncliffe blades and I'm still not 100 percent sure I like them but I am impressed enough with this knife that I am going to keep an open mind and give it an honest try. Maybe they will grow on me. I hope so.

I like the wharncliffe on this pattern, how easy it is to grab and use, with a slimmer closed profile than that of the sheepsfoot. Your mileage may end up varying, and that's okay. :)

Time for yet another update, and this one's special indeed.

Last month, wlfryjr posted the following in Charlie's barlow thread:

I had the great pleasure of meeting Lyle at GEC's Rendezvous at the end of the month, and discovered he meant the above literally-- just before leaving, he presented me with the knife itself.

Nice pictures of some fantastic knives. The jigging on the blue one just sort of calls to me. I am happy to report that I have been getting along very well with the wharncliffe blade on my #25.

So the #25 barlow is a 1/2 inch shorter than the #15 barlow right? #25 looks a little wider than the #15.

1) Yes, the #25 is 3", the #15 comes in at 3.5".

2) I thought they were maybe the same width (or, height when placed next to each other on their springs and viewed from the side) and the #25 simply looked taller due to its foreshortened proportions, but a quick check reveals you're right-- the handles of my #25s are taller than those of the #15s throughout.

I learned something new in the looking. :)

Was that a tambourine I just heard?

Mr. Tamborine Man. Good old song Sarah. Think I'll have to see if I remember how to play it later. I like that little Tidioute!

Much better pics (and singing too) than mine P. Here's my latest 25. I forgot how nice they are to carry : )

I hope you can; it'd sound great on your Gibson (as would most songs, I'd think). :)

Keep practicing and you'll qualify for the International Silver String Submarine Band

In my dreams. (Not all dreams are good, o' course.)

Very nice. The little ebony 2-fer, with its backside pen, remains a favorite favorite.
