GEC 25s - Gots 'em?

I haven't seen the wharncliffe paired with a secondary pen on this pattern. But then again, I'd not seen a #25 barlow in smooth white bone until Perry posted his!
Say whaaa? :D

That's a #25 Jack. Thanks for playing. :D

(Always good to see your pictures. :))

You're right there Lyle! Everytime I look around the folder threads here, it makes me spend money.
Pertinux, the secondary blade is in fact a pen blade. No small Clip here! I will say this, this smooth bone is a very early one.
According to Barry and some I've talked to, these at first were made with this Pen blade, but the stamping on the bolsters didn't work so good.
You won't find many in this configuration.

Thanks so much for the further information, and the pictures. That's not just a pen secondary paired with the wharncliffe, but a back-side pen secondary.

Well, I'll be. An anomaly, for sure, in bone covers and blade selection and placement. (I love learning about exceptions like this.)

The latest WLST™ I have adopted.

Sweet! The figuring in the covers really suits the knife well.

It's funny to me, the order in which my brain takes in details sometimes.

This time, the progression went something like, "Hey, elk-- that means it's likely stainles- well, duh, there's the blade etch and acorn. Wait, I have that knife in zebra wood."

I've actually been carrying mine from the get-go today, and used it several times while out (major tasks like zipping off tags, plastic holders, and a plastic bag I'd gotten tangled up in). :)

They are an amazingly versatile little blade. The ring or middle finger falls right in the cutout for a secure hold on such a small blade.

Very true Pertinux, never thought about the Pen blade being on the back instead of in front of the main.

As one might imagine, I've been worryin' this particular #25 bone all week end, heh. I've looked through GEC's lists of production numbers for #25s again, but don't see this particular model. Perry, if you could be so kind, could you please post the serial number/year? It'll be on the back of the main blade's tang, and will read 2502_ _. I'm guessing the last two digits are 08, but my guesses regarding this knife have been wrong so far(!).

(Barry, do you have any further information?)

My other "research" has included taking out my own #25s and clicking and clacking and enjoying them anew, in the best Lyle tradition. :) The following is what I've been playing with examining, consistent with what I've also seen from others-- and the reason for my perplexity regarding the blade combination and placement on the knife above.

Clip main blades, pen secondary in front, each a #251208:

Stonewash blue, stag, primitive bone

Clip main blades, pen secondary behind main, all steel, each a #251211:

Snakewood, ebony

Wharncliffe main blades, clip secondary in front:

Stag (#250208), appaloosa bone Jack (#250209)

Spear main blades, clip secondary in front, each a #252208:

River blue, Old Red [no 'official' name yet determined], Horsecut Antique, Patriot (aka, Party Waiting To Happen. I mean, just look at it!)

Outside the scope of the two-blade combinations and placement, but for the sake of (current) completion, #25 Jacks (two-bladed appaloosa jack also seen above):

Northwoods Bullet Jack in smooth bone, appaloosa jack, zebrawood #253110

Love this thread. Thanks for all the input owners of #25s!
I finally found an all steel sheepsfoot in ebony for sale and joyously pressed click click only to receive a phone call telling me that the vendor had neglected to update his website.
Frustrated, I went for a two blade Barlow in tractor green (see Pertinux image above) which should satisfy me for a while when it arrives. Oh I did like that all steel Tidioute though! I shall post pics as soon as it arrives.

Out the tube and to work. It's pretty dark here in the western isles this time of the year.

That's an amazing collection. I am green with envy. I would love having any single one of those. Do you carry and use them all on a rotation?

As a matter of fact, I do.... (or will the new ones....)

The MOP barlow at the bottom (#13) is in my pocket right now....
