GEC #35 Churchill Thread

I wasn't crazy about the cover options either but I definitely want to make sure I get at least one of these Churchills. Based on my past experience with Smooth Yellow Rose, it will look even better than I expected. It always has in the past anyway.

Dylan, you might say that I made sure you will get a nice jet black Churchill. I chose to sit the Ebony out this time because of my bad luck in the past getting brown instead of black covers. Since I won't be getting one for that reason, I'm sure every last one will be as black as can be.:)

My eyes are on that Yellow Rose as well. Excited about that one.

What does everyone have against pinched bolsters?

I don't care one way or the other, but is it just an aesthetics thing?

I stood on the fence for awhile, and maybe that was because there appears to be a lackluster selection of cover materials. But I have simpler tastes and have been finding that my preferences are leaning more and more towards woods so I went in on an Ebony. I am quite pleased to hear that it it is a nice black ebony versus some of the recent variations that have come to light. I am really curious to see this pattern in Stag, I might regret getting just the one...

I wonder if we haven't had our expectations somewhat altered, especially with the number of SFOs that seem to be accompanying recent GEC runs. Lots of shield and cover variety and options as a result and then along comes the Churchill, with a rather limited selection and perhaps we feel let down in a sense.

But then again, I haven't been around the scene all that long so my perception may be inaccurate.

Perhaps some cool pictures of these knives once they've arrived at their new homes will inspire you some?
I agree with you, or at least I think I do. I don't hate any of these covers, but to me they are all about a 6.5-7 out of 10 - which means I have trouble deciding on a single purchase. If there was a typical jigged bone - in just about any traditional color, my choice would be a lot easier.

I think they look good on some knives but they just look like dents on other knives which I guess is what they really are.

That is a good question. Not sure if I can answer it well but I will try. I think the best way I can describe it is that it disrupts the flow of the knife to my eye, almost as if it is clipping it short or cutting it off before it can be fully manifested.

But yes, it is strictly an aesthetics thing for me.

I'll be honest...I've never bought a knife nor refused to buy a knife due to pinched or un-pinched bolsters. I'm sure they work for some patterns more than others, but it's never been a concern to me.

I'm sure there are several things that I care about that others don't, so I respect those who do care about pinched bolsters.

I suppose I understand. I have a slight preference to tidioute trim 57's because of the big, smooth bolsters. It's never been a make or break for me, though.

I tried my best to make that happen, but I came up short.

I really like this pattern, but the covers and trim haven’t made me make a decision. I really like my BF #35 and had high hopes for this knife. So far, I’m just not felling 17’s #35.

HST, I'm feeling the same way. I love my #35 forum knife, and on paper I like (almost) everything about the Churchill, but so far nothing is speaking to me.

The 35 compares favorably with my older edc's:

Stropping Young Lad Stropping Young Lad I may have not noticed the thick tang, if you wouldn’t have mentioned it. It does add a more sturdy look to the blade.

I really want to like this knife btb01 btb01 . Maybe, this is the point where I should realize, I have the knives I want.
