GEC #35 Churchill Thread

I'm glad to see everyone enjoying their knives as much as I am. This is my first GEC knife and I seems I chose a good one for a first!
I don't find myself using the clip blade too much, but the secondary has been a boon at work and has seen lots of use with boxes, strapping, zip ties and even a little drywall.
The main blade is quite fun as a "fidget" toy, it sure has a satisfying click.

I had held off on the Churchill because I felt the Montana workhorse I have is similar. Although the two share similarities they are both unique unto themselves. I forged ahead and took the plunge.
I picked up a store knife in the rotten banana version. I find the concept/shield unique and can understand the indifference towards it. That said I do like the shield. It has a small front pin crack on the mark side that is not a problem for me. I followed the "lower the kick" mod on the sheepfoot and enjoy the difference it made:thumbsup:

My ebony Churchill is my new favorite knife. I wasn't too hot about the stag Northfield, but gosh, everything else considered, it's as if all I want right now is to carry the 35. I'm thinking about grabbing a maroon micarta, or just another ebony to keep tucked away for after they're sold out.

The banana shield on yours is a lot of fun, and I think the dye job on that run is fine. It kind of epitomizes smooth bone.

Had an early Christmas in central Illinois this weekend and enjoyed family. Love the kids. There was no exchange of presents but I did pass on a small box elder burl 21. Good day

Both of mine are very smooth after the initial flushing and oiling. Both have really nice snap on both blades. Although I have had the opportunity to handle a couple that were extremely gritty and almost needed help closing. My ebony 35 is just extremely sweet. Carry it Almost every day.

I bought five Churchills from this run and the snap on the Clip blade was what I consider weak on four of them out of the tube.

Both blades have great snap on my Ebony version. The one that I decided to carry was one of the Rust Reds (I bought two of those) and although the snap is still a little weak on the Clip blade, it did improve a little with a flush and lube. I found it satisfactory straight from the tube, just a little on the weak side for a GEC.

Having said that, I totally agree about the smoothness of the action. The trade off for the slightly weak snap is that the blades are very comfortable to open and they glide along the path from closed to open with a smoothness that is hard not to like. Makes it a pleasure to use the knife. A trade off that I'm happy to accept.

I'd agree with the clip being on the slightly weaker side from the tube. Not so much that I'm disappointed, but a little more so than I'm used to. If a Vic Farmer is a 5 I'd call the Churchill main a 4 1/2.
However, the pull and the snap have improved since I first started carrying it. The snap to the open and closed positions went from a "meh" to a most beautiful and audible "clack".
I cannot help but pull the knife out every few minutes and open and close the clip blade; the action is velvety smooth and the snap is music to my ears. I've never owned a knife that was such a pleasure to handle and use, makes me look forward to my next GEC purchase.

I have two Churchills and I'm having the same experiance with them others seem to be having. One came needing a through joint flush of more crud than I would have though possible but cleaned up real nice. The ebony arrived completely clean. Today both are ultra smooth with bold snap and a sweet pull of 4.5 on the clip blades. I consider these Churchills a pure joy to carry and use. :)
Well done GEC !!! :thumbsup::thumbsup:
