GEC #35 Churchill Thread

I had held off on the Churchill because I felt the Montana workhorse I have is similar. Although the two share similarities they are both unique unto themselves. I forged ahead and took the plunge.
I picked up a store knife in the rotten banana version. I find the concept/shield unique and can understand the indifference towards it. That said I do like the shield. It has a small front pin crack on the mark side that is not a problem for me. I followed the "lower the kick" mod on the sheepfoot and enjoy the difference it made:thumbsup:

Wow, i really need to buy one myself.
I just love the yellow bone on it, what a beautiful knife you have :)

That Hummingbird looks a beauty!!

Just keep opening&shutting, oil a bit more and thwack! It'll appear, I'm telling you;):D
That's how it went for me. Mine snapped open nicely but was quite lazy and impotent upon closing. After a while carry and a few cleaning cycles it woke up. This knife breaks in nicely!

My Minion (BANANA) is very smooth, actually the clip more than the sheepfoot. Oiled both and both are super smooth now:thumbsup:

I will admit, I’m jelly of those Banana #35s.

Rarely do I get a GEC that doesn’t need to be cleaned properly. I wish I’d have gotten a #35 Banana, but these Delta Jacks are so sweet. Those banana #35s hit a sweet spot in my head.

My new #35 Delta Jack(s) just got their first service. They’re all snappy now and spot on.

What's your routine for cleaning your traditional pocket knives?

JTB_5 JTB_5 Unless it’s bone (cold water then or the dye will leave) really hot water, a toothbrush with Dawn soap, then a pat dry. I then put gloves on, so there’s no oil from my hands, and blow dry them. I make sure to cool them down with the dryer’s cold air as well. Then I nano oil the joint(s). Work that in and clean any left over or muck that comes out of the top. The. I slather them in mineral oil and let them dry. This can take days. In the Northwoods thread, I show pics, but here’s how I let them dry from mineral oil.

Thanks for sharing! I’m new to traditional knives so I’m still learning all the ropes.

yes! i love smooth bone very much aswell.
What are your favorite kinds of bone?
All smooth bone Kevin, natural and others, but my favorite bone is a toss up between CASE red bone, pre 1970 & vintage Schrade peachseed bone:thumbsup:

We are well and hope you and Nanc are too . Sorry to hear about you having a blizzard but , you do live up there . I do have the snow plow mounted on one of our lawn tractors . Will be putting a snow blower on the other one this week . Be careful up there my friend .

I didn't pay too much attention to these when they were announced, but after seeing @TheFactor's stunning ebony example that he posted in the Beverages & Blades thread, my interest was piqued. I keep coming back to looking at them, so I think it may be about time to pull the trigger. The only hard part is choosing handles. Ebony? Hummingbird Acrylic? I've got some thinking to do. Oh, or Maroon Linen Micarta? Drat. Even more thinking to do. ;)

I have been in possession of 3, ebony, Stag, and hummingbird. The ebony knife is the smoothest, and is in fact one of the smoothest GECs I've ever owned. Not to say the stag and hummingbird aren't smooth. But the ebony is just cherry.

Ebony is easily my favorite of the bunch...
