GEC #47 Viper

Thanks guys! I agree, GEC did a fantastic job with the handles on these, names and patterns..... I can do without the etches though. The Italian brand Viper has the market cornered on garish Viper etches already!

Great family there Ratbert! Looks like you got a really nice snakeskin too. Wish I'd put in for that smooth oiled bone too. That's the only one I missed in this run..... That I wanted at least.

How about a 47 in Oil Sucker Wood.. Satin bolster/blade!!! John:D

My only Viper is this 2014 stainless in maroon micarta, which has also been my daily carry for the past couple of days.

I've never successfully captured the subtleties of the micarta in a photo, but in person there's a lot going on in there. It's one of my favorite knives.

Jeff, good video! The edge pro really does a knockout job on an edge! I tune my users up with it too!

In regards to the handle material being a one off.... Maybe it is for GEC, but this material has been, and still is, available from a billiard supply place in the US for several years now. I think I read somewhere that GEC was waiting for it to be manufactured in Germany, which is quite possible, considering the amount they would have ordered. Anyway, I'm not out to prove anyone wrong, but more information is usually a good thing. All you have to do is search for 'juma knife scales' and you'll find it.

Steve, thanks for the info. I had never heard of Juma. Here's a photo of some knife handle slabs from the web...

These are the "snakeskin" variety. I think my favorite is the ivory-colored one.

Al, thanks for posting that photo of those juma scales. I agree, the ivory snakeskin is my favorite as well, but the brown is a close second!

I was able to get a better shot. Looks like we have the same pair of snakes!

Got my snakeskin in. I love it! it is hard to capture in all its glory tho...had to wait for the sun.
