GEC #47 Viper

I've been waiting to see what the jigged bone color options were going to be in this run, but as of today it still hasn't appeared in writing on GEC's website or in the early reserve section of the site where I have two reserved. Thankfully, the "What's In Production" photos on GEC's website have pretty much answered my question.

Looks like the Tidioute is going to be a dark green:

And the Northfield version appears to be a burnt orange (I think?):

Anyone have a Tideoute and a Northfield Viper to compare pinchability? I agree, the snakewood totally has my vote, and I always like threaded bolsters, I'm not sure that I'm crazy about the swedging on the Northfields. I have a wharnie 77 barlow in Northfield that is pinchable but it takes extra effort. My Willamette Whittler is easily pinchable and has more of a standard tideoute style wharnclif blade. Perhaps I'm being too picky. I do know that patina always helps to get a better purchase on any blade style.

Got my name down for a snakewood viper-and aren't they looking nice?
If all goes according to plan this will be my first trio in one model ie Tidioute ,Northfield and GEC. yessss.

I was going to pass on this run until I saw your post. I made a promise to myself I wasn't going to get a new Viper unless it was run in Green jigged bone. Ugg.. my wallet is quivering already.

To the OP... I love my Micarta Viper. It was my first of now many GEC, and I use it almost every day at home. When honed properly it is the perfect craft knife. The fine tip is like using an exacto. and the strong edge near the tang can handle whittling and stronger cutting tasks. Just avoid cutting on hard abrasive surfaces and it'll be a laser like everyone else has implied. AND it simply pairs perfectly with just about any modern folding knife that has a belly. Oh man I picked a snakewood early on, not owning any in that material yet. It looks amazing!

I have not thought about a hat trick with a knife pattern...... Smooth move !! Love the Elk SS. To bad no SS this run.

Anyone have a Northfield Viper, is it pinchable with the gloss finish and large sledge?

I have a Northfield and several Tidioutes and the Northfield is definitely harder to pinch. It's due to both the swedge and the high polish. I couldn't pinch it until I got a patina on the blade, which made it more grippy. Also, I pinch with my left hand so that I have my index finger (instead of my right thumb) against the nail nick, which gives better contact.

Thanks Bob, that's what I imagined. I appreciate the confirmation. I hope to find a bocote like yours one day. Those are all beautiful.

Make it easy on yourself and get a custom swayback ;).

You'll actually save money in the long run.

I had a 47 but gave it to a knife shop owner who has taken good care of me in the past. I've also had a few Case swayback jacks and a swayback gent. Obviously not as high a quality, but still nice knives.

I am getting the green jigged bone. It will be first gec knife. I am wondering what knives ship free one will look like?

I just sold my one and only 47 on the exchange a few days ago. It was a solid beautiful knife but the 55 is a bit better suited to my hands. I am wanting to find a 92 wharncliffe talon to try. I really like the size of the handle on the 92 and it is deceptively comfortable with the somewhat odd spine. I have a spear blade 92 that I use a bit and really like it, so I'm thinking I'd like the Talon wharncliffe version as well.

Silenthunterstudios, your probably right about a custom. I just don't know about custom prices for one knife yet. I'm sure one day I'll find out. I've seen some beautiful swayback mammoths on these forums.

I am very curious about the Tidioute in Brown Snakeskin Acrylic, it could be really something. I like the Bottle Green Bone too but I don't think I'll be getting one, I don't use the Osage Orange one. Great knife, fine finish but I just don't get on with Swaybacks in the hand. But that Snakeskin though...dayuummm:D:thumbup:

Hi Ed! Maybe not the best photo, but here's a pic with a Viper, Talon and Hound Tooth... my favourite is the #55 Hound Tooth. But if you're torn between all three, I think that the #92 is a nice compromise. :)
