GEC #68 Pony Jack

Looking good, KY!

I just got a couple in today, and I am expecting to get more. This is a great classic pattern, and I am amazed once again by GECs fit and finish. This knife is a contender to my other favorites without a doubt.

I'm off to a friend's wedding, so I will add photos tomorrow.

Pertinux - here are some top down with the White Owl

Sorry they are a little blurry, was having technical difficulties :o
Let me know if you'd like me to try some others...

Burnside - I'm guessing you don't need these, but here ya are anyway :)

Anyone else, while I'm taking requests? :)

For those who have both the Pony and the White Owl...Can you comment on the differences? Weight? Blade thickness? Tradeoff of two springs vs one? The White Owl is one of my favorite knives, but I really like the idea of these jacks...Just don't know if I would carry one over the Owl.

SubSpace - on my mail scale the White Owl comes in at 1 7/8 oz and the Pony Jack 2 1/2 oz.
I definitely feel that difference in the pocket, but it's not a huge deal (at least for me). Likewise, I prefer the slimness of the White Owl in pocket.
In hand, they are both nice, but the Pony Jack provides a fuller grip, but don't know that I can say I prefer one or the other in this regard...
The Pony Jack definitely feels more solid, substantial.
But as of now, I'm still going with the White Owl.
Hope this helps a little :)

Nice comparison shots, thanks.

You don't happen to have an ebony White Owl, do you? Probably my memory playing tricks on me, but I don't remember my spear blade ebony White Owl being as slender as your clip blade cocobolo. I seem to remember the handles being more barrel shaped, not as straight as yours (I like the straighter slabs better for pocket carry).

Hmmm, I don't have an ebony, but I do have a cocobolo spear White Owl - it seems the same as the cocobolo clip, but I could take some pics if you'd like.....

I've been anxiously keeping an eye on this thread over the last couple days as people posted pics of their new 68s. My two should get here in about an hour or so!

Ahh, the wait....
Did you happen to get a red bone?
I'd love to see pics of any red bone versions - the dealer pics I've seen all seemed to be a light red...

Those are the pictures I've been waiting the whole life o' the Pony Jack to see.

I appreciate the weight comparison and your further impressions as well.

Thanks much!

Thank you so much, jwren. 2.5 oz is about the max I like to carry in my pocket, but it is still in my "sweet spot."

Just received my yellow clip point version today and couldn't resist an instant comparison to my WO and single blade #15 Boys Knife. It feels considerably more substantial than the WO with more positive action on both blades but somewhat shy of the #15 in firmness. Obviously a little more weight than either but slightly more pocket friendly than the #15 due to tangs being more sunken and rounded bolsters dictated by the equal end pattern. F&F being even better than my recent #15 which says a lot. End of story, definite right pocket carry alternating with #15. White Owl being resigned to dress duty.

Here ya go Sarah!

Whoops-- I missed this one earlier, the White Owl and Pony Jack right next to each other.

Sorry about that!

I think I was maybe distracted by the beauty on the left.... :o

Barry (or anyone else with the same), what are your thoughts about the Pony Jack as compared to the two-bladed, capped Boys Knife to its right in your picture?

Thanks for the pics jwren!

I'm loving my ebony spearpoint pony jack! I had it in my pocket at the wedding I was at tonight.

Mine just arrived today, clip blade version in antique yellow. What an excellent knife!

They are really very similar knives, with the PJ being just slightly smaller. I think it boils down to a matter of personal preference, but I'd be hard pressed to choose a favorite. Hmmm.....

I want to add that the biggest differences between the two patterns are: 1) the 15 has square tangs (half-stops) whereas the 68 has rounded tangs (no half-stop); 2) handle shape; and 3) size. All of these are minor differences with the biggest being the rounded blade tangs. If you like the 15 you will likely appreciate the 68 as well, variety being the spice we all enjoy! By the way, I put three coats of Ren-Wax on the ebony pictured and the wood just glows now! I'm still fondling it and haven't actually cut anything with it yet, but it is very close to being the perfect pocket knife (and so is the 15). lol !

If you haven't bought one yet, do so! The spear blade models are in short supply so act now! ;0
