GEC #77 Medium Barlow Impressions

Great looking knife that is developing character already. Did the sheepfoot get relegated to the knife drawer?

As painful as it was to do, yes at this point the sheepfoot is at least on a hiatus for the time being. This 2-blade combo and deep red saw-cut bone just reach all new levels of Barlow perfection. I sure do love that sheepfoot 77, so it will always be very high on my list of favs. It too was a long-sought dream - a long-pull single sheepfoot! So when this long-pull spear/coping (behind!!) in saw-cut red came along I just KNEW that this would be The One!! And in all-steel??!!

I'll be sorting through some of my knives and letting a few go as I've come to realize I'm trending toward being a minimalist and carrying just a few pocket knives. The rest are getting little if any pocket time. I'm not a collector, so some should go to someone who will put them to good use as they deserve.

The patina is coming along nicely on this one.

A handsome knife indeed! What a classic look

Thanks. Like you, this was a perfect pattern for me. The coping, all steel, long pull, and the size were just so right with this knife. I knew I couldn't pass this one up. About the only thing I would have changed would have been a clip main, but all in all I couldn't be happier.

I was finally able to get a 1B Micarta ordered!!! Can't wait for my first GEC!

Saw this and thought "How did you order one? I thought they were sold out!" went over to Mike's site and low and behold... I have a 2 blade Autumn Gold Bone on order!

Man! Why did I have to open this thread? I have never been so tempted to pick up a knife in my life, and a duplicate pattern none the less, but my wallet is screaming NO!

I'm only going to be able to keep one, but this way I at least get to have them both at the same time for a little while to decide if I like the blackwood or the AGB better.

Is your blackwood in 1 blade or 2 blade? I just went with the one blade because I don't like the knife to be too thick.. Plus there weren't any 2 blade micarta and micarta is what I wanted for handles.

Wow! Looks awesome! I can't wait for mine to show up.. how long after you purchased it did it arrive?

I purchased this one second hand and the seller shipped it first class from the other side of the country, so it took a little while, almost a week I think. If you bought from Mike, he uses Priority 2 day, so it should be there pretty quick once you get a shipping notice. I haven't gotten a shipping notice for the AGB I ordered yesterday yet.

Sounds good- I'm so pumped to finally get this knife in hand. I have been blown away by all the photos in this thread and by GEC knives in general. I'm hoping this is a good example of GEC knives since this will be my first one! (I think I picked a winner for my first though hah)

You absolutely did. I've had several and this run of Barlows is the best of any that I've had. It ticks all the right boxes for me: All steel, perfect size, long pull spear, straight edge secondary behind. It's perfect.

Amen to that! It's THE finest GEC I've ever owned. Virtually flawless and outstanding quality in fit and finish. All others now sit in the drawer.

Wow, patina forms quick on this one. Plenty after one peach. The EO works so nice after patina forms... thanks Bob!
