GEC #77 Medium Barlow Impressions

I can’t wait. This is how I was hoping it would be finished, but figured it wouldn’t because none of the others have been finished that way. Does anyone know if they send them to CK as they get finished or all at once?

In batches as they get finished as I understand it...

If I remember right , Mike usually saved them until he got them all in so that he could make a single shipment to an address and that way he saved a little on postage . It gets a little itchy to wait on them but , they are worth the wait .

I hate to say it but I’m a little confused on which is the Blood Red Saw Cut photos. But they all look great, I believe this will be my edc for a very long time.

I can't believe how many times I've hit refresh on the GEC page today. I'm just dying for another glimpse. I've not been this excited about a GEC release since the last batch of 85s (and even then, I think this is more exciting). A pinchable main blade with belly to it + a coping secondary. This, in my opinion, will absolutely best the best barlow GEC has ever made.

I've always been able to get multiples of the 77s in years past (heck, during the spear run, many variations were sitting in stock on the dealer's site for a week!). But I'm feeling fortunate to have one earmarked for me on this 2018 run, albeit my least desired cover option. But I think this is having an odd effect on me--making me appreciate it more than ever. I'm sure there's a Stoic principle at work here. ;)

I can't wait to see the next images appear on GEC's blog. Sawcut? Or Desert Ironwood?

Marty, if you go to the "what's happening" link in GEC's blog, the photos are labeled, I believe. This may help clarify things. Of course, GEC has been known to mislabeled photos in the past, so....haha. But the pics I see seem to match up with the labels based on what I've seen in years past. Hope it helps.

Thank you! All this time I had been looking at the photos in the What’s in Production section. I got lucky in the drawing with a saw cut bone. I hope after polishing a little more red comes out.

It will. And if not enough comes out and they're still too black, then a QTip with a little rubbing alcohol will take off the excess that would rub off gradually with use.

Just carry it for a while and see what happens with honest wear . Then if you don't like it , take artificial methods to change the look . Just remember that you can not Put It Back . The wear on mine , shown above , is natural wear . Congrats to you for getting a Reservation on the Sawcut Red Bone !!!!!

I agree with what Old Engineer and Traumkommode say. You will see more red near the bolster after GEC finishes the knives. If you're a collector, you'll not want to change the color any more. If you're a user, I think you'll find it lightens up with honest use. The knife will last much longer than the dark finish on the bone. But if you're in a hurry, ;) Traumkommode's method will work well. You'll have a classic in that red sawcut. Congratulations.

Here you go, MCar MCar - Square cut butt and chamfered, not rounded, edges:

Great photos! Thank you all for the help. This is going to be a carry piece and I have always preferred the natural aging process over forcing it. I’m looking forward to seeing it aged with a nice patina.
