Gec 81. Tidioute Abilene Stockman in Osage Orange

Does anyone have any pics they'd like to share comparing the main blade to other GEC blades? Like maybe a boys knife clip or a 73 or ... ? Thanks ~

That's an impressive find Steve!

I don't have this type of Stockman and I was surprised it sports steel liners not brass. One drawback of brass is that on bone and stag it can green bleed into the scales and cause discolouration, not a problem with wood though I'm sure.

Very enthusiastic about the Osage Orange, you and Mort show some really fine examples of this complex wood. Lot of grain, tough and yet, really quite light in weight. Apologies for any thread-drift but here's my Viper in it, hope it's of interest.

Regards to all, Will.

Will, I welcome your comments. The wood on yours has some great grain to it. I love the knot.

Joey, here's a photo of it next to my 56. It makes the 56's blade look stubby but I've never considered the 56 blade to be short by any means.

Here is a few I had on file.

I have noticed a slight "rattle" sound when this one is laid on a table. Not sure what that is.

Brett and Lambert, I'm getting jealous of the African blackwood. The wood database(thanks for the link John)says African blackwood is much denser than ebony. It must have a good fee land heft to it. It also says it's murder on tools to machine.

A fine duo (The #15 Scout might just be my all-time favorite single blade).

And as a side note, I'm reading that same book right now.

I always thought the scouts were big for some reason. It looks pretty pocketable next to the Abeline. Nice jigging too. I cant believe there hasn't been any stag examples yet.

If I could write like one person, Mr. Berry would be the one. Another would be C.S Lewis. While Berry would never be on bladeforums I do wonder what he carries. (You know he has too carry one) I could see an older stockman, maybe the 81 to tie all this into the op.

It's an older Robeson that I no longer have. Kinda, regret selling it, but I didn't like the delrin. I did like the size and pull on it though.

Very useful shot that, I thought the GEC was as big as the CASE. Makes me begin to need one......

The 6375 is a BIG knife, I remember when I first removed it from the box at the Post Office I was thinking "WOW this is big!!!". But it carries well in my Carhartt pants pocket (pretty much all I wear) and it's a strong/sturdy knife. I love the large Stockman.

I wish I had all the knives I've sold off or traded.

How do you get a video to show up

It has to be on the web. Then input the address using the "insert video" icon, which looks like a film strip.

Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1234567
Supported videos include:
Hulu YouTube (Long) YouTube (Short) Vimeo Dailymotion Metacafe Google facebook

You can also upload videos to a photobucket account.
I think you can also paste the address in and wrap it with the BBS code [video], but I have not tried it.

Well Steve this thread has finally pushed me over the edge & I now have an Abilene making the trip to Oregon. :) Will update with pictures as soon as it gets here.

Jake
