GEC 86’s for 2023

My HJ will be coming soon!! It looks like GEC is making their own first!!?? (I don't know everything they are going to do!!!) 😲
Mine will also have a clip blade. I like the Spear-blade Jacks though - they look great!!
I am calling mine "the Rider"!!

This one is going to be epic. I‘m hoping for the same bolster style as the 2021 Blade Forums knife, but maybe it will be a new style bolster. Long-pull or nail nick for the clip-point blade? I’m hoping for the long-pull. Also, I hope this will mark the return of the Waynorth Cutlery Buffalo NY tang stamp. I bet the punch will be the same as the one on the 98 camp knife since both frames already share the same clip point blades. Maybe the Oil The Joints U.S.A. tang stamp can fit on the punch tang. There is a lot of potential here.

How long has it been since the last Harness Jack. Maybe 7 years. I think the HJ10 35 based Drover came out in 2016. The punch on the HJ10 is so sharp that it is the perfect splinter remover.

The marrow bone and harness jack are calling to me. I've only seen marrow bone on GEC fixed blades, but I'm only about 3 years into GEC collecting. Has GEC ever used marrow bone on a folder previously?

This one is a 14 from the 2022 Rendezvous.

-It's Bone, Kelly!!
-I'm flattered, Hyesouljah!!!
-Bladerust, I was gonna use CC Rider, but since that name has 'non-family time' implications, as I looked it up, I reduced it to "The Rider"!! Who knows?? We might be going off to find the sunset with this one!!!
-SFO, echo!!

I can just imagine, Bill is on the phone, Charlie's working on the name

we were so close 🤣

A little technical question here. They seem to use 2 mm diameter rivets for the blade pivot, even for bigger blades like these. Are those rivets made of nickel silver, as well as the bolsters? If so, is that enough to hold such a massive (relatively!) blade if being constantly used? I mean no stupid use, but say cutting something hard (again, relatively) which would require a more than mediocre pressure? Won't the rivet deform in some way being that thin? Any thoughts?

Hope that's not the blade pivot, perhaps a backspring stop/locator pin?

Barlows are not any stronger than a regular jack knife. The long bolster is just a marketing ploy.😉🤔🤣🤡💲
Even then, a 2mm pin seems pretty small. No illusions that these are pocket tanks, but that seems a bit on the small side. It's also located off center which makes me wonder if it is the pivot.

Not sure how the blade size fits into the equation, however 3 years of cutting with moderate and greater pressure has not had any negative affects on the pin in this knife. I would argue it gets used as much or more than most knives.

Here is a case mini trapper, closer to 3mm, and slightly offset. 3mm compared to two is a 50% increase, and this is a smaller knife. Never had issues with any of my GEC's just surprised how little pin is needed for the task.

Pics of the marrow bone have been uploaded! They look really good, hopefully I can snag myself one of these.

I’ll be curious to see these finished. I like the rustic bone, and I like the fancy bolsters, but I’m not sure I like them together. There’s a lot going on.
