GEC #89 Fruit Knife...well, that was a surprise!

Lemon Brite ? Sounds and LOOKS cool but it makes me thirsty, I want a Gin and Bitter Lemon now :D

I do think it suits the long slim frame of this knife though :thumbsup:

I think it looks pretty good, too, and if I can get one of these, that’s the one I’m going for. But I still think this pattern would be even more appealing (to me, at least) as a Farm & Field Shadow pattern in Nifebrite or Lemon Brite or Sunbrite or whatever the want to call it. :D

I received the KSF notification for the Apples & Oranges (of course I wasn't in time) and was interested to note that they are listing the knife as 420HC. I was already wondering about this, actually, as GEC never mentioned the steel (just "stainless") and I couldn't see a Cyclops tang-stamp in any of the photos.

I'd assumed 440C based on past releases. I guess we'll know for sure once GEC gets the stainless #89s up on their pattern archive, as past stainless releases have listed the type.

Interestingly, KSF had both wood and bone 38's available today at the same time as the fruit knife - for a brief moment.

No indication on the knife or tube to positively identify the specific type of stainless. Apples and oranges acrylic is reminiscent to recent dead skunk 85, has dimensionality between layers. Normally I don't care for knives this long, but this is so slim and light weight with it's nicely rounded corners, it's a contender for some pocket time as it will carry smaller than it's length might suggest. No halfstop, fairly easy pull as there is lots of leverage between the nick and pivot. Bonus for stainless when food is the intended use. F/F first rate, zero gap held up to light open or closed. Nice knife.

Beautiful knife and picture John:thumbsup::cool:

I got a reserve for the Chestnut. It'll be my first 89, first stainless and first Chestnut. An all around good addition to the collection.
I was thinking about picking one up as well as a backup food prep knife and you mentioning it’s stainless really kind of solidified my thoughts now. I had an opportunity to grab the acrylic this morning but I think chestnut is more of my style. If I get lucky I get lucky!

I got the shipping notification for an apples & oranges. I’m looking forward to comparing it to a 54 when it arrives. My mind refuses to see the 89 as anything but super long.

My A&O 89 just came in yesterday and I was pleased to see that it didn’t have the lamination lines like a lot of the dead skunk 85s did. I’m most excited for the chestnut, just not entirely sold on the acrylic yet..

You know what this post needs? A picture! :D

I have one on the way. I’m hoping that this will be like the 38’s in that I was in the fence prior to and thrilled with it in hand. I would like more acrylic in my collection, so I’m hoping I really like it. I’m not sure how some of y’all got yours so fast, but those that did thanks for sharing this far for us to look at while we wait.
