GEC Abilene...did someone's wishes just come true?

Just found out about this run, and one WILL be mine! A stockman a little larger than my Cattle Roper will be a good thing. I do have a couple of questions, if someone could please help:

1. Are these Northfields polished steel blades, or satin finish?

2. How does the knife thickness compare to a #73 2-blade Scout or a #53 Cuban Stockman? Thicker, thinner, or about the same?

Thanks!!

Most all Northfields will be polished; these are as well.

Main Blade on the Abilene == 0.102
735212 == 0.086
531213 == 0.081
531307 == 0.091

thanks for the exact measures, so the abilene main blade is a little thicker than average, though I can't tell if those differences would make a practical difference.

The Abilene is tempting. Next time I get a knife I'm getting a small one, Pemberton or a 25 Barlow, but I've wanted a stockman for a long time (I have one but it doesn't feel like a stockman to me) and the Abilene looks like the stockman I've wanted for so long. Maybe I'll get one in addition to one of the small knives. If my money situation is good. Very lovely model GEC!

Just ordered a Yellow Rose version from Mike. Excited for it to arrive.

Mike, my thanks as well for the measurements! I like beefy steel! And the weight is pretty reasonable at 3 oz. Order has been placed.

No name, you are going to be kicking yourself if you don't jump on these! This is definitely the GEC stockman I've been waiting for.

Those are some great looking knives, Barry. I appreciate the detailed pictures you always post (here and on your site). Especially useful are the shots with just a single blade open at a time. It helps get a mental feel for how the knife would actually feel in the hand.

Received my copperhead bone yesterday and quite frankly, was floored by it. Fit & finish was very good, actually this knife and my Diamond Jacks were my best yet from GEC. Tight construction, beautiful rich colored bone, very thin grinds and actually also my sharpest yet from them as well.

Hows the blade pull on these? Waiting for my African blackwood, been carrying my Queen SM Heritage premium stockman in anticipation.

No pics yet, but my Abilene with blackwood scales arrived from Mike today...WOW is all I can say!

Can someone tell me what the lengths of the Spey and Sheepsfoot are on the Abilene?
