GEC Abilene...did someone's wishes just come true?

My college graduation and acceptance of a "real" job present came today! I've always liked my Buck 301 stockman but desired something more aesthetically pleasing. In steps GEC with their wonderful jigged bone and carbon steel blades and we have something right up my alley. So far, I couldn't more happy. Oh yeah, this is also my first GEC (even though I live 2 hours away from the factory and have a cabin 20 minutes away!)

@Turk88 congratulations on your graduation, and thanks for the nice photos, especially the backspring shot.

Turk,
fantastic pics and congrats on the job!
If I lived that close I'd probably have all the styles of 81 made!

Thanks all. Maybe after a couple paychecks c.helm. 2 hours is too short of a drive to not make a trip right? F&f is terrific on the 81 and even though there is some heft to it, it feels slim and very pocketable.

Just ordered one in Blackwood, what a great looking knife. Hard choice as to which one to get could go with three or four !

What's the deal on the Northfield acrylic? For such a "loud" knife they managed to sneak it by me.

It's a late announcement short run, called Mardis Gras. Will have have a jigged stag model as well (not 2nd cut, just jigged over plain stag).

My pair came in today and I took a couple quick pics before the light let out. I like the blackwood with long pull but think I'm liking the simpler Tidioute more overall.

Boy oh boy this is a dangerous place!
I love the look of the Osage Orange, but up until just a few weeks ago the largest stockman I carried was a 3 7/8" (Buck 301, Case '47, Schatt Heritage) and wasn't sure about how a 4" would carry in my pocket. Well, I couldn't resist a stag Boker 7474 at 4" and it carries just fine. Up until then I thought I could be happy with my smaller #66 frame GEC Stockman, now I want that Osage Orange. It looks terrific

Anyone get the Copperhead bone yet? I wasn't going to because I had one that was okay, but after seeing some pics of this one, it might be what I'll order.

Just found out about this run, and one WILL be mine! A stockman a little larger than my Cattle Roper will be a good thing. I do have a couple of questions, if someone could please help:

1. Are these Northfields polished steel blades, or satin finish?

2. How does the knife thickness compare to a #73 2-blade Scout or a #53 Cuban Stockman? Thicker, thinner, or about the same?

Thanks!!

The Northfields are polished finish. Master blade is a little heavier on the 81 than on the 53 Cuban, but the 81 is a clip blade where the Cuban has a California or Muskrat clip master blade.
