The legend himself had great taste... who would have thought?

Was it? Too bad I was only a 10-year-old lad with a barely functional frontal lobe. Still was into knives tho. Slipjoints are still a relatively new category of knives for me. I mean, it's been a couple of years, but it's a small slice of the whole.

Not my "ideal" shapes, but the shape isn't all too important to me; mostly the blades. As long as it's not a shape that's too stumpy and fat, or too tall and skinny, I'm happy. Call me Goldie Locks; I want it just right. Or would it be Goldie Not-Locks...?

Seriously tho, gorgeous knife. When they are used as intended, they always end up looking so cool, with the history of all it has been through on full display. I just can't bring myself to treat it any less than royalty when I have a modern folding knife on me as well and when it looks so pretty. You are a much stronger man than me, man whom fish fear.

Haha! This made me laugh (just in case the "haha" didn't give it away). I read it as if it were one of those edits of speakers saying weird things, just because the one who edited it took clips of them saying a single word and strung them together as they pleased. You know what I'm talking about?
 
I'm partial to jacks with a clip and long spear point with a long nail nick. Adding a super pointy wharncliff to the other end would be spiffy. Or even two of them.

As someone who isn't a fan of the spear point blade, im curious as to what you enjoy about it? I would like to know someone else's point of view on it. There might be something I might be overlooking completely.

ha. they laugh at me. When I decide to go fishing, the fish split up, and go 10 to 15 miles upstream and downstream, or to the middle of the lake, where 2,000 yards of line is not enough to reach from the shore (no boat or float tube).
I know exactly where the fish are when I go fishing - where i ain't. 🤨☹️
oh well. a "bad" day fishing was still better than a "good" day at work. 😁

And I dont know, even though they laugh, it kinda sounds like the fish deeply fear you, sir. They put quite the distance between you two.

If you ever get a chance to get one I would highly suggest doing so. They are a great pattern. Like you said they are definitely improved over the regular trapper (in my opinion anyway) :)

I mean, I totally would love to get one and would love the chance to, but seeing as, at least from what I can find, the last time they made the Improved Trapper pattern was in 2017, almost a decade ago, I dont think I will get a chance unless they make it again.

Are you also a fellow disliker of the spey blade shape? My intuition tells me yes.

I see! So, for you at least, it comes from a practical use standpoint more than an aesthetic standpoint. I can see how one would prefer the spear point blade if the knife only had a single blade, or even just to complement other shapes that are more specialized in certain areas.

Side note: I absolutely love "The best at nothing, good at everything." Sage-like words there.

I definitely don't care for the spey blade that's for sure. Like you, I find the wharncliffe to be much more useful for my needs.

The 48 improved trappers show up every once in a while here on the exchange, but they usually fetch a pretty hefty price.

Edit:
I should edit this to say that while I don't care for the spey blade that much I do recognize that there is definitely a place for it. I do have a few trappers that have the spey blade but they rarely get carried.

Yeah, that's the problem, the price. I cannot, and if I could, do not want to shell out a chunk of money for the knife because GEC hasn't made one in a long time; hence the frustration that they haven't made one in a long time, haha.

I agree with the sentiment. When I say I dont like or care for a blade shape, that is not me saying the blade shape is bad, but my own personal feeling towards the blade shape. If I dont have a use for the blade shape and personally find it unappealing, which the spey fits both of those criteria, then I dont like it. I am not dismissing the entirety of the blade shape with its use and history around it.
 
One of GEC's best with a blade combo similar to what you are after is the #86 Oil Field Jack.
