I get your point and it’s valid, but also it’s kind of a moot point, they ask a really high price and maybe nobody buys it but the next person sees it and still goes by itAt this point I wish another company would try and compete a little harder. Case could do it, IF they put together a quality control team. When they do their best work, Case still makes great knives. They just aren’t up to the same standard as GEC. Obviously they aren’t after the same market. But this is my fantasy, and I’d love to see what Case could do if they focused on fit and finish. The variety of colors and covers they offer is unmatched. Albeit some (most) of them are gaudy, they have gorgeous shades of different colors. If a smaller company like GEC can maintain a high level of fit, surely Case could devote some of its manpower to at least a small number of patterns to up the quality.
Well, I mean, they do try with their Bose line, but again, the Bose knives cost right out of the gate what desirable pattern GECs do on secondary. Also, Case really, really needs to upgrade their steel. I've had so many Case knives in my life that I couldn't put an edge on, or if I could get it sharp, open a few envelopes, and it was back to being unable to even do a standard paper cut or armhair shaving test. Now, fair's fair, a lot of GECs have this same issue, where they come pretty dull. But they use 1095, which is a pretty decent knife steel that's easy to sharpen and maintain. Case's "surgical Tru-Sharp" or whatever it is, isn't great.
