GEC new 41 pattern

The Doctor is in the house! Postie Mike dropped her off a little bit ago. The fit and finish is typical GEC quality. The spear blade is nice and snappy with a 5-6 pull. The Lambfoot is not as much and noticeably less snappy with a pull in the 4-5 range. This was after flushing both blades. The handles are a nice dark ebony and well matched. Overall I’m pleased and it’s a keeper! The last pic was for my curiosity and I’ll let you all decide since I couldn’t find my micrometer to measure both.

Nice pics! Thanks. I was waiting for some photos in the wild. I always appreciate your Dead paraphernalia! All the covers look great, but ebony is usually my first choice. Ebony and the bar shield are fantastic!

That’s interesting, Dan. I’d say on mine the pull and walk & talk are a little nicer on the Lambsfoot than the spear. The rest is as you say, pretty standard for recent GECs. Personally I’d like a stronger pull (say around 7, where these are more of a 5), but the action overall is certainly better than, say, last year’s #77s.

The only issue I found with mine (which came in the mail today) was a proud tip on the Lambsfoot blade, but a couple minutes carefully filing down the kick just a touch and that was taken care of.

Nice pic!! Can you, or someone, take a pic of the pillbuster end?? Many old doctor's knives were very square and flat on the end!!

GEC definitely did ‘em square and flat, Charlie. It’ll easily stand up on end. (Not the best lighting for this pic but hopefully you get the idea.)

I should take a comparison pic with a Waynorth Lambsfoot — the 41 Lambsfoot blade is a bit shorter (maybe 1/8”) and slimmer, with a less pronounced taper — but for now here it is next to the Albers Lamb I had in my pocket today.

I like this knife!! Rasberry color!!!View attachment 3128984The pulls suit the knife, 6 1/2 to 7!!! And the knife indeed will stand up on its "pillcrusher" end like most traditional Doctor's knives!!

Very nice, Charlie!

I think the Northfield jigged bone is going to be a good looking knife, too, at least based on this pic from the What’s Happening section of GEC’s site.

In the meantime, I got a second Tidioute #41 in Smooth Oiled Bone. Pairs nicely with the ebony.

Here you go Charlie. I just revisited this thread. It will bust pills and stand proudly at attention. Barrett captured it perfectly so here’s a closeup.

You know when I was a young boy I thought it would be a great job to be a photographer for Playboy. Life is strange. Here I am old, still immature and taking pictures of the butt end of a knife and enjoying it. Fine pair of bevels….

Taking pics of this butt end would certainly be safer for this old married man... not as much fun, mind you, but definitely safer.... 🤣

edited for full disclosure..... just to note, I greatly prefer round butts to the square ones, on both knives and models.... 😁
