GEC new #43 pattern, who’s excited?

Nice. I have the red that I cart my stag #73 double blade in. I am hoping the red darkens some with age. Love to see these offered in a dark brown, I would buy about 3 of them.
I bet some boot grease would darken them....thought about it but the thought of hubbards boot grease in my pocket didn't sound fun..ha!

Here ya go Student. Enjoy the wait, it will be worth it!

Every day seems to a #43 day lately. This is very unusual, as I seldom carry single blade traditionals. There's just something special about the 43. GEC got everything right on this one. It's incredibly comfortable to hold. The heat treat is nice and hard. The pull strength is perfection. And after breaking out my digital calipers last night, my suspicions have been confirmed. GEC ground this knife thinner than your average GEC, and even a touch thinner than many of my Case knives. It cuts very efficiently for a blade of this size. Out of maybe 30 or 40 GEC's in my collection, the micarta 43 is definitely in my top 5, next to my #98 Texas Camp Knife, #77 two-blade barlow, #15 soda scout, and Mudbug. I really wish I'd had the cash to grab a 43 stag as well.

Couldn't have said it any better...it's a slicing machine!

I really like the looks of that knife. I thought about the cherry model but never got serious about it. I probably should have joined the OKCA just for the opportunity to pick one of those up.

This was a real popular club knife since it was the Oregon pattern.. They went pretty quick...

I have looked at the Tidioute nr 43 with red jigged bone covers. How do you folks feel about the pull on the Tidioute version, too light or just spot on? I know I'm a bum for not reading through the thread and maybe finding the answer :p

I had a tidioute micarta for a bit and I have a cocobolo northfield now. The tidioute pull was about a five for me, with good walk and talk (and some blade rap). The northfield is about a 4, with a little bit less walk and talk (and some blade rap). I like them both, but if you like a strong pull, neither will be that strong.

Yeah, I like them a bit stronger. Maybe I look elsewhere.

Mine has a 5.5 - 6 pull, walks and talks like it should. The stag is exceptional on this. Its well matched and fairly narrow as I like. A subtle detail on this one is that it slightly swells at the butt end. The only con is that I won't be pocketing it, maybe I need a coco user as well.

With all of the different GEC patterns I have owned the past few years it is the #43 that stands out to me. It is the only pattern that I still feel I "need" to own more of. I really don't need a knife this large for most tasks but it fits my hands so well, has a nice easy pull and just seems suited to most tasks despite the larger size. Great slicer, large enough to process apples and other fruit, pointy enough for many detailed tasks and hefty enough for heavier things in the yard and garden.

Really feel like if I could only own one or two slipjoints the #43 would be one of them and my #48 2 blade the other. Right now I have the micarta which I carry and a jigged cherry that still sits on my desk. The micarta was to be my yard/garden knife, the cherry my EDC. Somehow a green bone keeps calling to be a dressier EDC knife though. Stag and orange bone are pretty but just not my thing. The #43 gets carried either loose in my pocket, in a leather slip or a little belt sheath depending on what I am doing each day.

I was thinking the same thing but then I saw a nice one go for $430 on the auction site!!

I also watched that auction, right up until the end. I never had a realistic chance at it, but couldn’t take my eyes off of that amazing stag. The stag on that particular knife was breathtaking.

I like the knife club one. Wish I could have gotten that easily. It would have been my choice.
