GEC new #43 pattern, who’s excited?

I just ordered four of them this week. One with cocobolo, one with antique green jigged bone, one orange camel bone, and one red jigged bone. The antique green and cocobolo already showed up and are great im looking forward to the other two showing up on monday. The Brazilian cherry and sambar stag seem impossible to find now unfortunately. These are also my first GEC knives and im very impressed so far.

Let me know what you think of the jigged red bone. I was thinking of ordering one if I can find one once the bank account gets replenished. Something very classic about that combination.

I have that one and it’s great. Not so light that it looks pink but not so dark it looks like blood or black. Fit and finish is perfect and action is good.

I really like my 43 with Jigged Brazilian Cherry.
It's a little big to carry, so it lives in my Jeep.
It's a tie between my 43 and my 66 for which one gets used the most.

I have the Brazilian Cherry, natural micarta, and orange camel bone. I though for sure the micarta would be the most carried but I really like the feel of the camel bone and since it was a factory second I don't worry about using and abusing it. The #43 is what led me into the insane world of GEC collecting.

Hey guys,

Im professional chef of 13 years, long time knife user(kitchen, folding) and long time sharpener.

Im new to the site and this is my first time posting.

I just picked up my first traditional.... A GEC #71.

Im more a knife user than a collector ( lol kinda) so the #71 seemed to be a good starting point.

I have one question... When you guys say "blade rap" are you refering to the edge hitting the spring on the inside?

Yes, the blade hitting the spring when allowed to fall freely from the half stop.

Thanks man!

Im a social media idiot lol
Ive been using, sharpening, and collecting for years and never knew this place existed lol

I only discovered it last year, but hang around awhile and you’ll feel like you’ve always belonged. Folks in the Traditional forum are friendly.

I had a feeling that this was the best of the run, and now I am pretty certain it is. Stronger pull than my Stag, no blade rap, perfectly centered, beautiful jigged bone, and the Beaver shield! Thanks very much to my friend who made this one available to me.

BTW, @Copperberry after reading about your wedding day accident on a different thread, your remark about that 43 jumping into your pocket makes me very nervous!
Love the look of the beaver tail on bone. I wish they'd do that more often.

I went ahead and added a #43 to my stable of knives.

I got the Rust Red bone trapper because I was lacking in red knives, that and the jig looked really good on these.

The knife is pretty big when compared to my normal carry of #66, #72, #73, but it pocket well being so slim. The pull on mine is very light and non-nailbreaker friendly which is kind of nice. It’s walk and talk is maybe the smoothest of all the non-locking knives I own. It does suffer from some blade rap which, but it looks like it will sharpen out very quickly and barely affects the edge. Also, one of the sharpest knives I’ve received factory direct.

It has some great black “spots” in the color which I’ve always liked on the rust red knives.

It’s got a patina started on it now, so I’ll have to get some pics, but it’s a heck of a slicer and will prove to be an excellent steak knife.

It’s a winner, but it isn't likely to take the spot of my main rotation. I’ll enjoy putting it through it’s paces for a while though.
