GEC Radio Knife

To tell you the truth, I don't know exactly why the ebony cover has pitted like that. All I can say is that it has been exposed to sheep blood, pig blood, chemicals such as Chem-Tool (SP?), acetone, and turpentine along with any other manner of things found in a rural/country setting. Other knives I have with ebony covers that have been used in the same way this knife has been used show no sign of the ebony covers pitting. Maybe it's just a one of a kind thing with this particular cover. Don't let it put you off getting a knife with ebony covers. Ebony makes for great knife covers and like I said; this may just be a one of a kind thing.

Oh, the cover on the other side (pile side) of this knife if just fine - no pitting. Go figure. Just one of those things.

I don't think it would have quite put me off, since seeing how it wears is all part of the "experiment," but I was curious if I was sentencing an innocent knife to be hammered to splinters by my keys and pocket-change. Seeing how many old, ooooold ebony knives still look fresh as a daisy on here, I didn't think I was, but yours made me wonder.

Thanks!

Naaaaaaaaaaawwwwwww - pocket change and keys aren't going to do that. Like I said; it's just one of those things. I use my knives but I don't abuse them. Sometimes, there's just no obvious, in your face, explanation.

That is essentially my grail knife. If anyone happened to grab an extra one or for some reason decides to sell......please let me know. Please!

I carry mine with keys, change, etc and none of that left any significant marks on the ebony, but they did mark up the bolsters a little. I accidentally dropped my #15 from a height of about 3 ft onto concrete. Left a very small ding in the ebony even smaller than the ones in Modoc's picture. I used a small piece of 1500 grit wet/dry sandpaper to smooth out the tiny ding and now it's very minor. Ebony is some tough wood.

Here's my version of a radio picture. I am glad I held onto this variant of the Radio Knife.

Nice Sonnenmann. I just found out recently that the Crosley radio company is now based right here in Louisville. They keep outgrowing their warehouses and are consolidating their many smaller warehouses to one 260,000 square foot one about seven miles from my house.

That's cool, it is definitely a decent product. I never thought I would appreciate one like this, but I leave on the news as I bustle around in the morning and it's a nice model.
Granted, I'm not exactly using the blade or driver on the Radio knife to tinker with it, but maybe it's good that I don't have to :D

I spent the weekend in Nashville and visited Jack White's recording studio (Third Man Records). The radio knife felt right at home!

I've always thought of this Utica Kutmaster as a "half-scout", but it fits the Radio Knife genera too. OH

Old hunter, can you give anymore information about the name of this knife, or where i could find one? I really like the bail and haven't seen many with that feature without a can opener, awl, and other things I don't need. Just the blade, cap lifter, and a bail, I really like this one. Thanks.
