GEC Rendezvous 2023 Announced

I’m slowly unpacking from the rendezvous. I haven’t had time to get photos of this years haul yet. I wanted to grab a quick photo of this knife, the 2023 PA Wounded Warriors Knife. Here it is next to my Camel 87 I received during the drops.

Thanks to the Great Eastern Cutlery crew for putting in the hours and a great meet up again this year for us enthusiasts!

I had a great time at the rendezvous this year and I’m already eager for next year’s meet. Talking and growing relationships over the net is one thing but making the journey to PA every year to put faces to names is really a special thing. Someone told me over the weekend the Rendezvous refuels the soul in this hobby and I couldn’t agree more. It was great seeing everyone over the weekend, missed a few faces also. Hopefully we can all catch up next year again 🍻

I thought I would share my 35 pattern SFAs. Have a great night!

Superb examples of the pattern there my friend  I'm particularly struck by that Winterbottom style bone called Antique Amber one of 6, the shield is just right for this pattern:thumbsup: Likewise, the Indian Paintbrush, super jigging- really hope to see more of these scales on future releases. You chose brilliantly.

Thanks, Will

I’m still trying to find out if there’s any difference between these label 1 of 17 and the other batch labeled 1 of 15. So far they seem identical from photos I’ve seen from others. Looking like there are 32 of these total?
Or just a typo on some tube labels - these are hand written so it’d be easy to accidentally lose track when trying to do so many.

I remember seeing two seemingly identical 35’s in ebony in the display case, but they had slightly different prices ($3 difference). We asked about it and they weren’t sure why.

After second though, I don’t think I checked the blade finish when comparing the two.

Augie Augie , Heynowwww Heynowwww , Lander boy Matt Lander boy Matt : does everyone have Tidioute stamp and satin blades regardless of the tube label?

Yep, satin blades and Tidioute stamp for me. I believe my cap is printed in red, could be mistaken tho. Either way it's gonna be a struggle to not carry this one20230614_165908_copy_2295x3060.jpg

Curious that the tube lid on my ebony says 1 of 17, whereas others say 1 of 15

Interesting… mine says 1/17 as well.

Maybe call GEC to get the answer ? 🤔

It really doesn't matter much to me, whether it's 1 of 15 or one of 100,000 it's found a permanent home. Just curious is all. I'm sure the weeks leading up to the rendezvous are hectic for the folks at GEC, mistakes can and do happen

When I've had questions like this, I've had immediate responses from GEC, Buck, and Cold Steel of old.

The bottom guy is the regular release from last year. The other two are SFA.

The one with the sheepfoot is interesting (although personally I think spear-sheepsfoot-caplifter would’ve been a slightly better combo). As for the middle one, I think maybe someone just assembled 10 knives wrong. 🤣 Still a curious “rare” variation.

Just a few more pictures of knives I picked up at the Rendezvous.

Every year I try to find a vintage non-GEC knife at the rendezvous. Last year that was the 1930’s Camillus ebony easy open teardrop knife. This year I found an early 2000’s Bill Howard-era Queen-made Gunstock John Primble. It has stainless steel blades and the prettiest shield I have seen in a while. The golden jigged bone really attracted me to this one. Really nice action on both blades. I have carried this one non-stop since returning.

Not normally a Gunstock fan, but that would certainly convert me. Love it. Great find.

We asked at the store, they couldn’t tell either. My guess is just a typo on a few labels. I bugged William, Joan, and others at the factory with enough silly questions over the course of the event already so unless we find differences amongst ourselves I don’t feel the need to press 😅

I agree with Matt. This could have 2-3 variations, and be out of 50 or 5000… I still carry and use all the knives I get. It’ll be a workhorse of a pattern and I can’t wait to get some patina on those blades.

That Primble is a beauty Travis. I’d be carry that too. Excellent pick up!

I got my first gunstock pattern at the event and I love it. Great frame.

Wow— that Primble is a gem! 👍🏻

That's if tangs and springs are the same on both secondary "blades", which is possible. Do they look similar Heynowwww Heynowwww ? Genuine question.

I had that same thought, even checked my standard #35 Johnny on the Spot before I posted that. 😉 Everything looks pretty symmetrical, and think the fact that they made 10 of them with the tools swapped is evidence that they could be swapped to either side.

I was waiting to hear back from waynorth waynorth Charlie before I let it be known that he gifted this nice folder when we met up at the rendezvous it’s a very nice Shatt & Morgan folder that rides every day with me
