GEC Rendezvous 2023 Announced

I’m really enjoying my time and it’s great to meet all the people!

Did not go for the 81 or 87 stag, beautiful knives just not my cup of tea especially when I already have an 87.

I got there around 9:30am today, met up with DavidZ DavidZ always good to meet up in person with you Dave !
And later on with waynorth waynorth aka Charlie which I was glad to see this year. His health had recently had taken a turn as most of us know, but he was walking pretty good, no cane needed and just as lively as I remembered him. I did not get any other images as the event didn't seem very photo friendly/opportunity wise and the tour I had taken years ago would just be similar images taken again. As in the past, the folks at GEC paced the volume of people that got to go into the 'store' to look/buy by using tickets. You'd get a ticket and when your number was called, then you were able to venture into the store. Bill walked by and I said hey, I think he even remembered me ;) but he asked if I got a ticket yet and I said not yet. So he flagged down the nice lady and she tore off a ticket for me. Quite a high number, so the wait would be fairly lengthy. But, I got lucky at the porta potty, hmm that sounds worse than it was, by lucky I mean as I was waiting my turn to make my bladder gladder, a fellow came out of the 'booth' and asked if I just got to the rendezvous and I said yes, then he asked if I had gotten a ticket again I replied yes and he handed me his ticket which was about 40 numbers lower than mine and said 'here take mine, I'm leaving and won't be using it'. But as I needed to leave in a little while, I saw a fellow sitting in the queue for the store and asked him what his number was, it was quite high, so I gave him that ticket so his wait would not be as long.

But I did grab this candid of Charlie as he just got to GEC and was talking with one of the attendees, many people were waiting on his arrival, seemed about the same as you'd see at a Taylor Swift concert with fans swooning at the sight of him! well maybe not all that...;)

The Rendezvous again as the last time I was there seemed not the same, before it was more open and not so much a individual sales opportunity, maybe one day it will revert back, but I imagine that would be a difficult thing.

Charlie, it was great to see you again and glad to see you in fairly good health, as you noted, we're both aging ...rapidly and that's comes with ups and downs health wise!

Here's a link to a previous visit to GEC with a lot of photos

That cattle knife with the “antique amber jigged” is super cool. Would make a great companion to one of the 68 white owl from the recent run although they called that one “cowhide jigged” or something like that.

And the 77 Jack knife in cocobolo is just incredible!

Some really cool knives coming out of the Rendezvous! The #35s in ebony and bone are nice, and those spear point #25s?! Really good stuff.:thumbsup:

While I am envious that I couldn’t make it for the knives, I wish I was there to meet and talk with some of the people even more. It’s hard to beat talking knives with fellow enthusiasts in person. I hope everyone has a great weekend!
