The dishwasher will work. Or you can soak the stone in the sink with water, cascade (dishwasher detergent), and dish soap (dawn), that will get a lot of oils and junk out. Another thing that I use all the time and works really well is using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. The stone will eat up the eraser pretty easily but it will clean it very well. Good Luck!
