Gentleman's tactical

I sold some things and would like to use that money to a knife, of course. I have been thinking of getting a modern one hand opening folder, slightly on the large side. It should be slim, weigh not too much to burden me while wearing finer clothes, still be able to work if needed and heaven forbid to be able to use in a "tactical" or sd - role. It most definitely should have a touch of class. My choises for this knife are as follows:

Benchmade 710 McHenry &Williams
MCusta Tactility
Al Mar Eagle Talon ultra light

The Benchmade has the Axis lock. I hope I will not get a broken omega spring, but from what I have read from this fine forum these happen very rarely. The MCusta has a liner lock, which is the weak link allthough again in the light of the information gathered from this forum a well made liner lock is strong enough. Al Mar is way lighter than the others it's fit and finish have been praised and I trust it's backlock.

Thougts? Any other suggestions? My price limit is around 200 euros, absolute limit is 250.

I was going to say Spyderco Vallotton, but it may be too heavy for your needs. I carry with my dress clothes without issue, though.

The Vallotton is on the heavy side, but I love it. It is robust, well made and looks classy. The weight isn't an issue for me wearing jeans.

My preference will go for the Al Mar Eagle... even if IMHO the price is too high for the quality you get.
I think you will get better feedback on the BM710 which sounds to be a real and proven classic

Maybe you can also have a look at the Boker Kwaiken and Urban Trapper, and of course on the Spyderco Endura 4.

I won't pay much attention to complains on omega springs or liner locks... I never had these problems with any of my knives.

The 710 rides slim in the pocket, so that's an excellent choice for your needs. Also, give the BM 940-1 a look. One of my all-time favorite EDCs and rides very slim. It weighs very little and would be great in slacks, especially with a BM deep carry clip installed.

I've owned the Tactility previously. Great knife and would also suit your purposes. However, I got rid of mine because of where the pocket clip came in contact with the sculpted handles....it rode/clipped very loosely in the pocket and was prone to moving around/falling out if snagged. YMMV

Good luck in your search!

May seem like an odd suggestion, but the Spyderco Caly 3.5 CF/ZDP is the same basic construction (and same manufacturer) as the HD form of the Al Mar Eagle, with a slightly shorter blade but much better steel (unless you're able to find one of the laminate versions of the HD Eagle), more versatile ergonomics and better, deeper carry pocket clip. Although wider than the Eagle, it pretty much disappears in the pocket or waistband. Although it weighs more than the ultralight Eagle, it's less than the Mcusta--and all of these knives (except maybe the 710, ymmv) are comfortably light in a suit anyway.

Isn't the Code 4 from Cold Steel dressy and gentlemanly enough?
Slim, thin aluminum scales, CTS-XHP steel, low-profile carry, strongest lock on market.

I gave it a thought. Could be, a bit wide in profile. With this new steel it might be a cheaper option.

+1 on this. I don't have the Mcusta or the Al Mar, but the BM 710 is a bit big for dressier clothing. I think the 940 is a good compromise. And as others have said, no need to worry about the Omega spring on the BMs

710 is one of my fav BMs, but with dress clothes??? Maybe not.
I have an Mcusta Katana, excellent knife, but I don't carry it often....tip down. Great knife tho!!
I'd go with a 940 or 943.....one of the best gentleman's folders and it's tough!! Maybe a 470, the gray one.
Or a 705, dark green.
Good luck!!

I'll muddy the waters a little more with another suggestion!! Sorry!
Got this one yesterday and I am incredibly impressed!! The Kizer Corto.
Stupid smooth, great blade shape, blade to handle ratio is outstanding, feels great in hand and flicks amazingly!!!
Really liking this one and it seems it checks lots of your boxes.

OP - There are so many choices right now, many more so than just a few years ago...Kizlyar, a Russian brand, makes some great knives that fall into your category & fit your budget. Companies like Boker, LionSteel, Viper, etc...are causing even me, a fixed blade guy, to want to buy & carry one of these. I'm loving the elegant styling & really good materials they're finally using, without charging many $hundreds.

Palonej - I love that knife there - beauty!

Thank you VD!! I am amazed at the quality feel of this one....just amazed!!

Hi. Among the ones I currently own, the “gentleman's tactical” definition applies very much to the SG Spider Monkey. Truly a gentleman tactical knife in my opinion. Not really on the “large size”, probably not ideal for SD, but a little great EDC companion. It can take a lot more than it looks at first sight . Good luck with your search :) !

I second the BM-940/943 with deep carry clip (use the one of a contego) recommendation.
So slim and so light they really disappear in your suit pant or jacket.

The SG Spider Monkey is also a good choice. Not as slim and light has the BM Osborne are but much more tactical in design and use.

May I hijack your semi-thread a bit? I can suggest what I'm looking at but hoping people will suggest something for me too..
I am looking for the same thing, only my budget is a bit smaller (under 200 USD). I was thinking:

Spyderco Centofante Memory
Spyderco Delica Damascus Bone
Spyderco Kopa
Santa Fe Stoneworks Mammoth tooth linerlock

Something with the look and feel of a Damascus Small Sebenza with wood inlays but far cheaper...

Brous Blades Sniper satin looks very interesting. Reviews mention that the handle is really smooth and slick, to the point that it could slip. Also I have in mind to send a question to my favourite knife shop how much the Al Mar Eagle Hd would cost.

Bm 710 is still in the race, though and so is the Mcusta Tactility. The size is both in the range I want but the Mcusta is a bit lighter. The Osbornes with carbon fibre handle are, sorry to say, out of my budget, I like them visually. The 940 is also interesting, allthough smaller than MCusta or 710.

Hey guys. Tell me about the Spyderco Bradley 2. It might not be exactly on the mark with my specifications, but it looks classy and is slimmer than the original Bradley.
