Gerber Love thread.

I have a Gerber answer fast in their small size. Seems decent so far. I don't like the whole mystery steel thing they have going on though.

Still love the AR3.0. I've beat the heck out of this knife for years and it's still going strong, still flies open and locks in perfectly. More than I can say for some other knives I've owned that came from some of the more known and respected brands.

No doubt Gerber deserves some of the criticism they receive, but they don't seem to get credit where it's due. They've been better about identifying their steels, even though in some cases I wish I didn't know they were using Chinese junk. But they can still make a good product and they could break back into the industry as a more respected knife make if they put their skills and experience to use with some better materials and modern designs.

I had an original clip point Gator folder years ago and liked it. Got the drop point Gator II and liked it better. Then they started coming out with all the small cheap lockbacks and I gave up on Gerber. It is good to see that they are getting away from no-name mystery steels and are putting out some 154CM and S30V offerings.

I own the BG paracord. I wanted the compact but dislike serrations. I like it. I use it in the place of folding knives.

Just got a STL 2.0 and I love it. It's the one I keep on me all the time unless at the ranch when I carry something larger.

I have the LHR tactical knife and absolutely love it. Nice size blade, great hand protection and best part is the locking sheave which only allows the carrier to remove the knife.

Here is my favorite Gerber, the "Paul" of which I have quite a collection. They have a very finely engineered and manufactured patented axial locking system

Here is a cool video about this very unusual one-handed, very fast opening knife that was first made in the 1970's (before the tactical knife craze was even thought of).

My first knife was a Gerber Evo jr. And I was into Gerber knives for a while when I started getting into knives. My favorite one has to be my Prodigy. I think Gerber gets a bad rap but they have some decent products.

Love my Gerber knives, both the U.S. made and China made; got hooked a couple decades ago with my first Mark I... never had an issue or failure with any of them.

I own a Gerber Gator Machete, Gerber LHR, Gerber Mark II, Gerber Metolius Hunter D2 Series, Gerber Myth Compact, and a Gerber Profile in fixed blades; and a Gerber Gator I Clip-point Fine, Gerber Gator II Drop-point Serrated, Gerber MP450 Multi-tool, Gerber MP600 Pro Scout Multi-tool, Gerber Mini-Paraframe, Gerber Paraframe I, Gerber Paraframe II, Gerber Skin/Saw/Gut-Hook Knife Combo (Drop-point Fine), and a Gerber Stag Locking Stockman in folders.

I've been carrying a Paraframe II as my hard use work knife since 2004, and through warehouses, construction sites, and remodels it's still going strong... the titanium-coated finish hasn't even worn entirely off.

Just ordered a special series Metolius Hunter in titanium-nitride coated D2 steel for $29.99 (MSRP $75) with a leather sheath, and a Stag Locking Stockman with nickel-silver filigree bolsters for $9.99 (MSRP $43) from a large knife retailer that had about 500 of those D2 Series Metolius knives left over.

They must be pretty uncommon because not only couldn't I find them anywhere else, I couldn't find them on Gerber's site either, even on the discontinued pages. I did see the Caper D2 version on Cabela's though.

I always liked the Metolius, and I just got the D2 version with a nice leather sheath for less than the average price of the regular version (I think it was made in both 420HC and 9Cr) with a nylon sheath. Definitely looking forward to the mail for the next couple days.

I carried a USA made Gerber Mark I during Operation Just cause in '89. I haven't had a Gerber since then until 2 weeks ago. A friend gave me a new Instant. I had to file the thumb studs down because the knife kept opening every time I would tuck it into my waist band. Last night the pocket clip snapped off at its' weak point...the hole that allows you to tighten/loosen the left pocket clip screw. I called Gerber and they're sending me a new one. The instant has been an outstanding knife so far. The 7Cr17Mo is basically 440A. A steel that has served me well in the past.

I have an 06 Auto, an Emerson Alliance auto, and a Propel AO. All three are made in the US and are excellent knives. I rotate my auto knives when I am in uniform out in the field. The Emerson and the 06 are built like tanks and hold an edge very well.

Update. Gerber is sending me a newer version of the Instant with a stronger pocket clip. Basically the design was changed to accommodate the newer pocket clip so
they were unable to send me just the pocket clip. great customer service. This was my 1st experience with them and so far I am pleased.

Imagine my joy when, just after really starting to fully appreciate knives, my Mom found and presented me with this Paul of my Dad's, 25 years after his passing.

It has very nice smooth dark brown wood scales of some kind, and in surprisingly great condition all around, considering that he actually used his gear regularly.

While he took care of his gear, he never seemed to go out of his way to baby anything.

Unfortunately, the forum seems to be prohibiting posting of the great pics I wanted to share of this special piece.

Is it done with links to photo-bucket or something? It seems like I came across that somewhere. I'm new to the forum.

I don't have a photo bucket account but maybe it's time.

I use photobucket. It may seem daunting at first but It's not that hard to use and it's free.

Great thread.
Gerber came out with some really fantastic knife designs.
I'd love to see them redo the LST.

When I was working I carried a Gerber boot knife. Never had to use it, so it still looks new. Nice knife. I love the photos of the other great Gerber knives you guys have !!

Just posted a thread about my new (to me) Firestorm! Looks like an awesome knife. Found it at a pawn shop for 10 bucks.

So my Gerber D2 Metolius and Gerber Stag Stockman Lockback showed up... makes for a pretty nice CC setup.
