Gerber Love thread.

I've got a PR 2.5 that I carry a lot. Keeps an edge well and feels good in my hand. Only complaint is the rubber is pulling away from going in and out of my pocket. Also have a freeman caper knife that I carry in my hunting pack. Along with those two, I have a few gator folders that I used for a long time for gutting deer and elk. Fits my hand like a glove, stays sharp, and does not get slick after getting bloody.

Found a deal on the Mini-swagger, too; and couldn't resist... $13.49 shipped to my doorstep.

I received a Gerber PARAFRAME as a gift a few years ago and carried it for a long time as my edc and work knife. It was so light you didn't really notice it. Weighed less than 3 ounces. Unfortunately it probably fell out of my pocket while working and I didn't realize it.

My Dad has always preferred carrying traditional pocket knives like the stockman, but he received a Gerber Paraframe the same time I did and also carried it as a work knife for a some time. I think he tired of the having the knife clipped on his pocket though and went back to a traditional knife he could easily carry in the bottom of his pocket.

I prefer Leatherman's multitools but have friends/family that use Gerber, I purchased an early 12C27 LMFII which is very well built for the price-point, and this year I bought the new Propel as soon as I could find it. It has become my "go to" work knife since I removed the torsion bar. I made a rough discussion video detailing its features in comparison to the Benchmade 520 Presidio and briefly a CS Recon 1. Hopefully they'll release a less expensive non-assisted model with different blade profiles.

I really haven't had any Gerber knives I've been displeased with. I always hear a lot of ragging on Gerber, but the ones I own have never failed me.

LMFII Infantry - I've used this one in the field several times. It's extremely tough and has held a great edge for what it's been put through.
Instant - Great AO folder that rides low in my pocket and has a very comfortable handle.
Remix - One of the sharpest knives I have ever owned besides the Kershaw Leek.
Paraframe II - Extremely light folder, great EDC.
DMF - This either stays in my ACU pocket or on my LBV. Great for heavy tasks. Extremely sturdy knife.
Prodigy - I keep this on my LBV. Never go the field without it.

The list goes on. Gerber lover 'til I die.

It's funny Gerber gets such a bad rap. I've kept them as backups for years and have always liked them. Solid construction. I do have a small beef with the ones that require a star bit to tighten but other than that I've always been pleased. I have an old lst 2 that I've had for 7 years and its one of my favorite folders. Totally solid back up blade and it was my edc for a long time. I was sad to learn they weren't making them anymore. I took mine out after not having used it for a while and I forgot why I ever stopped carrying it. They definitely have at least some decent knives. Also love my evo. However it does have the star bit issue I mentioned. But it's a good little knife.

I used two Gerbers (I believe they were called Folding Sportsman II's) all through my Boy Scout days in the mid-to-late 70's. One is a dropped point & one is a straight trailing point. They stayed sharp, had useful blade thickness & bevels, and were probably one of the main causes of my knife addiction. I moved on to an Al Mar folder sometime around '80 but I still have the old girls, their heavy brass frames blackened with patina and their wood slightly shrunken from 30 years of box and drawer riding. I 'found' them again a few months ago when I was moving. One had turned green from riding in its belt sheath (complete with 'ORE' instead of 'OR' postmark,) but they both still had decent edges on them that stropped up to good edges in seconds. I was saddened when I handled a friend's paraframe a couple years back, but I hope they can make a comeback. Also have a 'Paul' floating around somewhere.....

The only Gerbers that I own are an original multitool and a 'Gator' both of which came in nylon belt pouches. These were issued to me while I was still in the Air Force in the early 90's. I still use the multitool from time to time. It's a good tool, but you have to be careful when using the pliers or you can pinch the crap out of your hand. The Gator is sturdy, but it doesn't really compete with modern knives in terms of quality and F&F. LOL I usually don't even include it in pictures of my collection.

i think they make some good stuff (my markII and whatever my good multi tool's called, my swagger is a heck of a knife for $13 on sale). their warranty department is fairly hassle free, though i was greatly disappointed when i broke the jaws of my suspension. it's a nice, light little deal, but the jaws are too light duty. i'd have been screwed if i was depending on it out in the boonies. especially if i were being chased by zombies or living off the land with bear grylls or whatever fad is coolest these days. you ask me, they need to focus more on quality than quantity. their product line is HUGE, and much of it is unnecessary. just some random 1/3 in the bag thoughts on the subject...

Was thinking about picking up a propel a/o here soon. Just have to find a place that has them in stock in my area

I recently purchased the 06 auto. U. S. made, S30V and a stout handful of knife. Seems to be very well made and has a nice solid lock-up.

I love the basic. Nice full tang that is nice as a edc for someone with small hands. I also like the mini and full size fast draws i just wish there was a lanyard hole on the mini

I have three Gerber's a folding gator , a cheap walmart special ( Christmas gift under $15 ) and a Gerber International folder made in tiawan of 440c stainless wood scales ,not sure of the model but it is large andtp://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j188/camper415/IMG_2784_zpsa11e7365.jpg[/IMG] solid .blade is 3-3/4 long .

I'm a Gerber fan. Issued a few items over my career, and I've bought a few as well... My favorites are the LMF 2 and my Torch 2. Both solid knives, and with the LMF-2 being issued, I abuse it a lot. In fact, I'm on my third one now, having "used up" my last two on tours. Prying, chopping, digging, probing, etc- one tough knife!

I have several Gerbers, mostly USAs that I bought at clearance pricing when I first got back into knife collecting after a "lull" of many years. In fact, the Prodigy was probably my first fixed blade purchase since the `80s, followed quickly by an LMF II, Yari II and numerous others. I occasionally EDC an Armor tanto that just about killed my interest in Gerber due to its horrible construction, but I was able to salvage it and make a decent knife out of it. The only other Gerber that I use on any sort of regular basis is a Gator folder that I take on hiking and fishing trips, although I do keep a Mini Remix in a backpack in the car.

At one time Gerber had a USA-made S30V EZ Out folder in their lineup. I believe it had camo handles. I wanted one badly but I could not afford one at the time. Does anyone here have one?

I like the Gerber EZOut products.

I don't have the camo-handled clip-point model, but I do have a couple of the S30V EZ-out DPSF:

It's a tough light-weight, designed with a robust tip and a lot of serrations for rope & root cutting. I like it a lot, but I often need the reassurance of steel liners and a thicker blade for outdoor work, hence my preference for the Propel. Also, the second DPSF i purchased off the forum has a sideways bend in the back-lock  That shows me how much lateral strain the knife can take without breaking (lock still works), but i prefer the handle not to bend so much in the first place!

I just bought a second Propel, this one in S30V, as my wife confiscated for her own use my first one that I de-assisted. This second one has a much finer G10 finish for use with bare-hands but still plenty of grip.

Back to the EZ-Out, I'm really hoping that Gerber produces a plain-edge S30V version of their new Order, basically the next generation of EZ-Out. The blade is shorter and ground thinner to the edge (hollow) so not so robust (will bust the tip off this one if I'm not careful) but its slimmer profile and nicer handle (good shape, in-laid rubber) give it preferred pocket-time = more often used:
