Gerber's Bear Grylls Ultimate, Fake or Real?

Well then idk dude, it seems real to me. They recalled and re released this knife a couple of times due to materials failing. Maybe its fake but the real one is so bad that it won't make a difference. Happy trails.

If I get you right your advise is if it's fake or not I'd better to return it and ask for another survival knife? Am I right?

No, if you like it then its good. Don't let me decide. In my opinion there are better knives for the money but my opinion isn't for everyone. It seems real to me, the picture with the orange signals looks to be the plain edge version anyway so the sheath could be different than your serrated version. Check out condor knives, check out Mora knives, check out some cold steel knives and do some research on materials and countries of origin. What country are you shopping from?

Now a day I'm in a 3rd world country so I've not that wide varity of choices. I concern about quality of materials and I'm worried that I bought a fake one while paid for real one. I've not used it yet so I can ask for return but if I use it and it fails I'm not sure to have any chance for changing it. That's why I'm asking for help :(

No worries friend. Glad to offer my less than expert opinion. It's impossible for me to really know if its real or not without really holding it and doing myown tests and research. Add to that I'm in bed with my girl friend sleeping next to me and mt phone on mute so pics and videos are small and silent. I would guess its real and depending on your intended use for it, its most likely of sufficient quality to achieve what, youre aiming to do. I apologize for typos, this site is glitchy on my android.

I saw the message you sent to Gerber. You may want to email them directly as the page you wrote to them on had been inactive since 2010.

First, if it is fake or not probably won't matter, the quality and materials will be about the same as the real and fake are likely made in the same Chinese factory be the same people. Second, the best indication of if it is fake or not is where you bought it, which you still haven't told us. Third, whether fake or not you can do much better for the money. I wold take a $15 Mora over the BG knife any day. If it were me,I would return it for something else.

I've sent an email directly to both emails on the website but got no answer yet. I saw Gerber had answered a post so I thought they may check this. but till now I have no answer from Gerber. :(

1- good point, thanks.
2- I've told. I bought from a local shop in a 3rd world country so everything may happen ...
3- thanks, I also may do the same.

It looks like an early one, before they redid the handle, the orange stripe between the handle and the hammer pommel is to thin, the redone models have a much thicker orange piece.

Also a little curious about the packaging saying "Made In U.S.A.", as none of those models were and I've never seen one that said that.

Return it and order something else. You can do a lot better than one of those, especially for $60!

Oh it's probably not fake. It just IS that shitty. So much so that you'd swear its a fake. I got the PRO version for 75 bucks and it's way better. Full visible tang, better handle, better steel, and a better overall look and design. You should have just got that instead cuz the original is a POS

You said you bought it in a local shop in a 3rd world country.

Do you have many options other than the gerber you bought for similar money available? If so what are they and what do they cost there? This info will give you more help with suggestions here, especially if you have the option to return it.

As others have said, since they are already made in China then the fakes are probably made there also. If you are planning on using it for standard survival/camping or whatever it should serve you fine. If you are planning on chopping down trees and splitting logs with it you will most likely be disappointed no matter if it is legit or fake.

No, not many choices. I'd returned it today ;)
Yes that was a key point which made me to decide to return it. Yes I'm probibly not going to be kind with survival knife (sk). now being a full tang is my periority for sk.

I don't know if I can find Pro version but I'll try.

I'd return it but there is no order here. Just have to search other stores and wait for a good one.

yes the pommel is obviously different from new form and is like older knives. Yes that "Made in USA" is another suspicious point and that's why I've zoomed on it.

No, you haven't told us where you got it. You said the above which is what you said before and it is not helpful. The biggest determining factor on a fake is whether you got it from a reputable dealer. We dont even know what country, town, or shop. You have not said if it was reputable or not. If you want help you need to be more clear with your answers.

Like another member asked, what other selection do they have? When you answer that question this time be specific so we can get an idea of what you are dealing with. Honestly, I wouldn't bother looking for the BG pro version. Let us know what you other options are so we can help you make better choice.

I think you don't know 3rd world countries. Many stores have even no name! So they are not reputable dealer as I said before. I've got help before and returned the knife today.

I've not searched all the bazar yet but I saw a Solingon and a Buck but they are very expensive her (3 times of Gerber). I believe I can find military knives like M-9 too but it's expensive here. I hope I'd find more with further search ...

Might I ask where you live? I ask only in the interest of, if I send you a better knife, will it actually get through to you or will it be somehow seized along the way? It sounds like you don't have many great choices where you are, but we still don't know where that is.

If it is reasonably-priced for shipping to wherever you are, I could try to send you a nicer knife. Nothing amazing, but still much nicer than whatever choices you seem to have there.

Shoot man , im sorry. I didnt realize you lived in a third world country. In that case, you probably wont find the Pro version (but just so you know, it has a black blade instead of gray, and the gray on the handle was changed to black as well). Could you maybe get amazon to deliver it or something? I honestly have no idea how it works over there so im really no help.

In your case, I would look for the best I could get for reasonable money. Find something mass produced so its not too expensive but is still decent, and in carbon steel so you dont have to worry about difficult-to-sharpen higher alloy stainless. From your name and some of what you posted, I take it you are somewhere in the Middle East, so rust should be a non issue in a survival knife. Best of luck, man

Red Lynx, thats awesome.
Cant speak for everyone else, but personally, I would even be down for something like everyone pitching in a few bucks and buying this guy a nice esee or something. It must really suck to be a knife nut in a place where you cant get good knives!

I'm in the Philippines and I just buy online. I'm in one of the smaller cities even.

Dunno why its so hard for the OP to state his location and I'm starting to smell something
I'll gladly eat crow if things will be made clear. :)

Quite sure he's in the middle east. Lord knows what's available over there, try pulling a good one off a corpse maybe.
