Get to know your fellow sharks

Cool thread.
I'm a 41yo knife/camping/gun/guitar geek in northern Virginia. I have a great family - been married for 15 years and have 3 awesome kids. I'm a technical recruiter who also plays acoustic gigs at local wineries and (just started) shooting USPSA matches on the weekends.

That's awesome, man. I've been playing for 5-6 years. I get into blues music. I had a nice little collection of guitars at one point but had to pawn them for tuition money. I've got a $10 Takamine now, lol, it's a good player though. I'll get an electric again someday if I can ever stop buying blades. Good luck with you gigs. Keep it rockin!

I forgot that I play too (or perhaps I play at playing). I've got a passion for the old acoustic blues, especially the delta stuff. Wish I was better than I am, but I have fun and it's a great way to unload.

This is a great idea!

I'm Will. I'm 44 years old, live in Martinsville, VA. I own/operate a 1960's bowling center and lounge, a local gastro-pub like restaurant and a small upper end restaurant. The next project in the works is a brewpub. I recently got married to a wonderful lady with 3 kids, 8, 11 and 12. I've become re-activated in Boy Scouts, I am the local District Chairman, a Cubmaster and an Assistant Scoutmaster. I'm an Eagle Scout and working on raising 2 more Eagles. I love the outdoors, canoeing, hiking, shooting, etc. I love to hang in my hammock on a cold winter night high in the Appalachian Mountains with a Fiddleback nearby. I road race sportscars in the Spec Miata Challenge, usually race from Summit Point raceway in Northern Virginia, to Road Atlanta. Racing is my father's life dream, so I got him a car and we race together. I am also a gun nut... I especially love ones that shoot 600 rpm or better :)

Man, hearing about some your alls lives is making my life seem boring and normal...race car drivin, singing in lounges, sky dive instructors. I've got to step it up!! Great hearing from you Will. You headed to the race this weekend?

The NASCAR race? I think I'll take the kids... some vendor will bring tickets at the last min, I'm hoping! :)

Nice to meet you "other will" lol. For some reason I thought you were old, lol. I thought a lot of guys were old, turns out Im one of the oldest! It's cool that all of us seem to enjoy the same things other than knives. Good food, micro brews, and being active and outside. We should all get together for a Fiddleback camping trip hosted by Andy Roy down in the Georgia mountains!

Hah, I guess I'm an old soul! -- Totally agree on the camping trip; I could only imagine the knife induced nonsense that would occur! :D

Neat thread. Cool to meet you all, some old friends and some new ones too.

I'm Nathan, 45, celebrated a 20th anniversary this last year to my lovely wife that I've known since jr. high and we have a daughter 15 getting her driver's permit (YIKES) and a son that's 9. Lived in Colorado all my life and love getting up to the mountains, but I've never been skiing. Grew up backcountry backpacking and climbing 14ers. I love camping with the family and hiking and playing with knives any chance I get.

I write software for a living and enjoy my job for the most part. Got more interested in knives when I realized that my hobby was the same as my job and I needed a different hobby.

Cool to see you guys that play. I've moonlighted as a sound engineer for a good portion of my life.

Nice meeting you Nathan, congrats on your anniversary upcoming. I can't wait until my little girl is old enough to take camping and I can buy her her first fiddleback!
If we get enough guys together we can start a Fiddleback band, lol!

My name is Bud. I'm a LEO (20 yrs) and specialize as a K9 Trainer/Handler and Senior Defensive Tactics Instructor. Other than that, I'd rather keep my personal info off a public forum - for my personal/family safety.

I gotcha bud. Nice meeting you. Gotta be careful these days.. that's why I've lied about everything so far. I'm really a tiny Cambodian girl transmitting from a hut in..you guessed it...Cambodia:)

Yep, cool thread, and nice to "meet" everyone. My name is Andy, I'm 38 and a university professor. I've been married 10 years and have two young kids who are my world! Love knives, guns (especially old Winchesters), hunting, fishing, just hanging out in the woods, and LSU football!

This is a great thread. My name is Dave and so far I think I'm the old man here, 50 earlier this month. I'm a purchasing agent for a school district maintenance department. I was divorced in 1997. As a result I sort of put my personal life on hold while I focused on being a single dad of 2 daughters. Now both girls are in college and my oldest is graduating from the University of Michigan this summer. I met my now fiance/best friend 6 years ago. (wedding this August) She also has two adult daughters. Our 4 girls are best of friends! Her daughters are married and I have inherited 5 amazing grand children!! 2 were born last month. It's been a great year so far! Oh and I have a 7 lb Chorkie (Tink) that I adopted from my soon to be stepdaughter and I man enough to admit it. :D I get laughed at all the time when she sticks her head out of my 3/4 ton GMC. It's actually funny as hell.

We as a family camp, share lots of outdoor hobbies and are follow drag racing heavily. I have a couple friends that run blown alcohol dragsters. I'm a hunter and love shooting sports. Being from Michigan I started my knife addiction with Marbles knives. I found Andy's knives just after he started his carer. It was a used Hunter that in hindsight I would love to have back.

Thanks emoney for starting this thread. It's great to get to know everybody a little better. Now It's even more satisfying to see you guys acquire your Friday choices. This really is a great group here and growing!

Hi all, I'm Walt, and I also am a faculty member in a Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences Department at a rather large university. I turned 57 this past Monday, and celebrated 33 years of marriage the week prior. I have a daughter and a son that are 32 and 30 y.o., respectively, and two grand sons that at 12 y.o and 5 mos.o, respectively. Interestingly, I also play at playing the guitar, the trumpet and bagpipes. I also am attracted to the shooting sports, so it seems that many of us have similar hobbies and backgrounds. Collecting guns, musical instruments and knives can be very expensive. I am thinking of putting up my Ameri-Strat on Josiah's trade thread and see what Fiddlebacks I might be able to get for trade. I try to make all of my own ammunition to satisfy my shooting sports hobby, when you can obtain components, but even this is getting very expensive.

I want to shout out to Josiah. I came to a similar epiphany at a similar age in my life. I was chasing my career for a long time, and it was taking a toll on my family (I went to college with a wife and a baby, and my son was born as an undergraduate). I wish you the very best in your journey, and I want to say from experience that your newly established family mission will be worth it. You may not be able to own all of the toys that you want, or think that you deserve at this stage in your life, but the rewards that you will reap will be priceless, and will pay you dividends until the day that you die.

My name is Sverre, I'm a 40 year old field biologist (larger predators) with a wonderful wife and 2 children (9 and 2). Spent some time in the infantry before university. Also done some consultant work for the military later. I currently teach biology.

I prefer to stay outdoors be it sailing, scuba diving, kayaking, hiking, skiing, shooting, hunting or working on the farm in the mountains. I also like cars and have a Porsche that's older than me as my summer fun car.
