Get to know your fellow sharks

Lots of "IT" types here! I'm Ken in North East PA. I'm a Communications Equipment Technician for the local power company. Served 12 years in the Navy as a Radioman/Information Systems Technician. Had back surgery and was pretty much forced into a medical discharge (Honorable). No regrets; I'm proud of my service but now I get to see my wife and 2 girls every day!

Hello All!
I'm Kevin, thirty five years old from Virginia. I'm married with no children, except our bulldog "Lola". . might as well say she's our child. Been self employed as a pawnbroker since 1998, my father & I own operate a pawn shop store. Life long bass player, played many a show's, venue's, cut records, etc. I used to shoot competitively years ago, but owning/running a business takes away so much time for things we used to love doing. I received my first "Fiddleback" knife this past Christmas and well, I'm sure most of you know what I am talking about when I say I CANNOT GET ENOUGH! I thoroughly enjoy the blade forums and people compassion for knives. Thank you!

Nice to meet you Kevin and all others who have shared. This is a great community to belong too.

Hey guys, I just sharked my first Fiddleback on friday and I know it won't be my last.. My names Jake I'm 23 from Vancouver, BC, Canada so it seems I'm the youngin' around here. I love guns, knives and just gear in general. I've got my advanced open water cert for diving and enjoy doing that while traveling(I've been across much of Europe, southeast Asia, many American cities, Mexico and drove through Australia) and spending time up here in the bush. My views on knives has evolved a lot over the last few years and it has led me to a quality over quantity approach that has brought me to the custom and handmade community. It's great to have these forums full of like minded people to help inform and develop my opinions on the things I'm passionate about!

Oh and on a bit of a tangent, Walt I grew up playing the bagpipes and my sister is a tenor drummer in a grade 1 band! My sister plays in Triumph st. Pipe band and won the worlds when she was in a grade 3 band with SFU. In fact my Mom teaches highland dancing and was a world champion when she competed years ago. My whole family has been and is still quite involved in the highland games here in BC and travels to Scotland usually at least once a year. Just thought I'd share that since it's a bit of a small community and it's always nice to meet others that are involved in it.

jake,
evidently i have some Scottish blood in my family. my mom is traveling over there for the first time in august..she will be traveling all over the UK for 2 weeks

That's awesome she should have a great time and hopefully she gets good weather! I've been back to visit family a few times and the history and architecture really amazes me.

Hi everyone... I haven't been able to shark any FBs yet on the Friday postings, but I've slowly picked up around 10 of these beauties over the last few months.

I'm mid-30s and live in downtown Miami with my wife. We're both from the Midwest originally. I work in finance and I love collecting high quality gadgets and tools (blades, guns, lights, watches, etc).

There is something addicting about Fiddleback and I can't get enough!

What a great thread. I've enjoyed reading and learning. Pleasure to meet all of you.

Thanks for sharing that Jake. I had undergone a rather prolonged illness with my mother that ended a couple of years ago. As a result, I became less involved with the band. I hope to work on getting back my stamina, and getting active again. As you know, the pipes are very physical to play. Getting back into playing shape will likely take six or more months of intensive work, which I have yet to invest back into it. Too many hobbies competing for my disposable time.

Neat idea for a thread. Lot of interesting people seem to gravitate towards FB knives. Here is a small glimpse of myself:

I'm in my early 30s. Currently a stay-at-home dad. My background is construction management. Left my last job shortly after the economy dip (genius idea I realize) to move to the Northeast to be with my wife. Professionally it was a terrible decision at the time, but it worked out on the personal level. I've gotten to spend many, many hours of quality time with our soon to be 2 year old daughter. Along the way I was also able to complete an MBA and we are wrapping up a massive home remodel (total gutting out of the house and rebuilding) where I was 95% of the labor/design force in my spare time. Future is scary. I shot my self in the foot in regards to professional development so the self-employed option is a real possibility in the near future. I wouldn't give up one dirty diaper, tantrum or sleepless night to make things different.

I grew up hunting/fishing with my dad, though it has been too long since I have done either. My parents taught me self-respect, integrity and a love of family. I spent time in school in the mountains of NC and a lot of time hiking and enjoying the outdoors. One of my undergraduate degrees is English, leading to a love of reading. Nothing better than sitting under the shade of a tree getting lost in a story. I'm currently located just outside of NYC, but a 20 minute drive to a very nice state parks (Harriman, trails along the Hudson, etc). The Catskills, Adirondacks and the Canadian border or relatively short drives so there are always opportunities to get out.

X3 on the physical aspect of playing the pipes!! I've had to haul bass rigs, upright & electric basses to the same gigs but trying to keep the bagpipes going is a whole other level on itself. I admire you guys that play.

Love this thread, so nice to get to know more of you.

My name is Dennis. I am in my early 40s, married to a lovely woman (Adrienne) who is my second wife. We have a 14 month old daughter who is simply magical. I practice law for the federal government in Canada; my wife is a published writer (poet) who is looking for teaching work.

We live in Vancouver, which gives us year-round access to the outdoors. We love to hike (we did the West Coast trail when my wife was 4 months pregnant) and scuba dive locally.

I have been collecting knives for years, but I am a terrible collector because I can't help using each and every knife. So...I have several hundred knives, but very little that has much re-sale value. Oh well, they're meant to be used, and I have fun using them.

I only have a few Fiddlebacks, but I cherish (and use) them. Andy makes some beautiful and very useful knives. One of these days I will have to get out into a hardwood forest and play around with them -- something different than all the soft woods in my area.

Seeing that I neglected to respond to this the first time around and that there are a bunch of new members here, I thought I would try to resurrect this old thread.

My name is Kris. I'm a 37 year old transactional attorney in Washington, DC. I work on M&A and other commercial transactions. I live in Woodbridge, VA with my wife and two daughters. My wife is a nurse and is fantastic at holding us all together. My daughters are 2 and 4 and are the best kids in the whole world. ;) No, seriously... they are made of pure awesome. :D We have another little one on the way, and that is terrific. The girls are super excited that they will have a little sister... yep, 3 girls.

I adore my family. I love music and art. I love football, MMA, knives and mechanical watches. I also love Squirt, Fresca, beer and whiskey. I really love cigarettes, but gave them up a little over 4 years ago... sniff sniff.

Nice bump Kris. Definitely a cool thread.

My name is Jim. I'm currently living in Massachusetts but was born in New York and have moved around a lot since I was 18. I just turned 45 in October. I've been a professional touring musician since age 21 and despite how difficult it can be at times I have zero complaints. It's a career I'm lucky to have and it's taken me across the entire country and around the world. Last summer I literally flew around the world in 5 days for 3 shows. :D I'm a multi-instrumentalist but I've been spending most of my musical time playing the Vibraphone these days. However I also play bass, drums, guitar, piano and latin percussion.

I was married for a brief time in my younger days but have no children. I've been with the same beautiful woman from Georgia for the last 11 years and I'll be moving down there within the next year or so. When I'm off the road I spend as much time in the woods, with my dog and a Fiddleback, as I can. Hiking, camping and trying to learn photography and woods skills. I'm also big into archery although bow hunting is mostly just me sitting in the woods with my bow. :D I've been carrying a knife since age 12 when my father bought me my first one on a summer camping trip.

I gotta say that I really enjoy my time on this forum and I'm glad to have spoken and shared with a lot of good folks here. I've learned a lot on this forum about a lot of different things and had some really good laughs so thanks for that.

I also have to say that, as a former metal head, I'm really curios which bands M4Super90 played in. :D

Oh, almost forgot. I'm a huge Yankees fan, born and raised, and fan of Baseball in general. Most of my summer nights are spent watching Baseball.

Thanks to everyone on this forum!

Hey, I'm Adam. Pretty new here but enjoying the community. People have been willing to answer questions and there's a lot of great info to be found. I've bought a few fiddlebacks and some of JouFuu's leather now, and have been enjoying it all on my hiking and fishing days.

I'm a wine dealer in NYC and I live a dual life as a fly fishing enthusiast and backpacking fanatic on the weekends. I really like getting out there and exploring new places, as well as beautiful spots off the beaten path. I am involved with Trout Unlimited's board of directors as of very recently, and I organize some groups related to a Japanese style of fly fishing called Tenkara. Its been insanely fun. I travel the country and the world as much as possible to fish and hike, and write about it online when I have time.

The rest of the time I'm begrudgingly navigating the subways and streets for work, happily selling some fine wines to wine shops and a few restaurants all around the city.

Looking forward to learning more about the community via this thread.

You probably wouldn't recognize my band, but the most mainstream acts we opened for on national tours were Dokken, Anthrax, and Pantera.

Thanks Kris for bumping this up!

Hello all my name is Brian. I am 38 and from Kentucky. I was born and raised a Navy brat till I was 17. :) I have been in EMS since 1994.
I am married to a Paralegal who I can't make go spend the next 3 years and become an Atty lol :) we have 2 awesome kids 9 year old girl and 5 year old boy who are my life :)

The last year of my life has been pure Chaos, as I said earlier I've been in EMS since 1994 and been a Paramedic for the last 10 years until Dec 29, 2014 when I was critically Injured while on duty in an ambulance accident. I should have died that afternoon but for some reason God has kept me here on This earth. I'll never return to work as a paramedic! I'm currently still doing therapy 3 times a week trying to rebuild my strength and memory issues along with neuropsych therapy!

On my off days I enjoy sitting on my back porch whittling and making feather sticks. I've not got to get into the woods this year so that's why you see me mostly do feather sticks and stuff from my back porch!! It's hard to tell a 5 year old you can't go into the woods to do something so take my advice STOP what your doing and enjoy life! It passes by too quickly

I am currently a long time member of the BHK Underground and now LTWK Pout house and thanks to a few PH members that's how I got here! Shamrock is one of my best friends and he got me addicted to FBF with my 1st EDCII. It's been down hill ever since :)
Oh my favorite color is BLUE :) as if y'all didn't know that one already lol

So enough about me let's cut something :)

Hello, I'm Blaine. I retired from the Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer (ship operator) in 2014 and now have begun a second career as a Mechanical Engineer doing construction design for Naval Facilities Engineering Command Mid-Atlantic (NAVFAC MIDLANT) working on Marine Corps projects. I've operated equipment (up to Aircraft Carrier size) but it's really been interesting to be on the design end.

I stumbled upon Fiddleback Forge way back when I was in Italy and have been hooked ever since. I've dabbled in hiking and camping along the way, but the second career comes with no leave time, so it'll be a while until I can stockpile enough leave hours to take another long trip on the AT.

Well, I have seen all of those bands in concert at one time or another so you never know. :) Definitely really cool though.
