The idea thread was good. I appreciate the input.
Steven has volunteered to help me this year and his contacts in the industry will surely be great to use on this. I have no doubt that we will end up with a better knife due to his offer to help. We may draft Ken Erickson (pattern examples) and GigOne (as a backup to me for collection and distribution (in case I get hit by a goat cart). I will make sure Gig has access to our fundage once we have it gathered although it will be my responsibility 100%.
I am going to boil it down to a few patterns that were mentioned the most.
Do not vote in this thread if you are not going to play.
. If your pattern is chosen, you are 3/4 committed.
Go ahead and post your blade steel and type preference here also. Keeping in mind that much of that will depend upon the company we work with.
The pattern will be what the majority decides. Since all these patterns lend themselves to 1 or 2 blades we will take a look at that keeping in mind the final price will be below 100.
Edited to add. Tough vote for me. I would be happy with any of the three patterns and the Barlow would lend itself to us having a BFC mark on the bolster rather than the blade, even though I voted for a swayback. In short I'm 100% in for two of whatever we decide.
For those who have not participated before. We will collect the total cost of the knife and then place the order. It takes at least 5 to 6 months from the time we send in the money. No profit for the organizers is involved so we usually get the knife at a price decently below what would be represented by the street price of the regular pattern run. Members outside of the U.S. are more than welcome to get in on this, but the postage will run a little more.
Each year we chip in a get a knife for a forum member. That adds a couple of bucks to the price and takes care of who gets serial number 1. I would like to send one this year to Charlie (Waynorth).
Charlie shares much of his knowledge here, with a great sense of humor and caring for this place. I know he has helped a lot of folks out directly and indirectly and thought this would be a great way to acknowledge his contributions in a small way.
P.S. If the knives come in during the first half of December, they may not be mailed until after Christmas. The typical wait at the Bastidville P.O. is at least 40 minutes. I am not going through that again.
. So if you are not a patient soul, it might be better for you to opt out.
.
If you have someone else we should consider, by all means post it.
