Remind me NOT to subscribe to this thread....too risky for po' folks.
LOL do not subscribe!!! Purchase warning in effect!!! :D

I have 3 in this batch for orders and one that will be up for sale, a .315 S7 "3 finger Cleaver."

Orders - Custom .315 S7 chopper, a .315 D2 Tanto and a 5160 "reverse tip" tanto`

Yes! Looks like something for me is hiding in that bar of d2. Can't wait Daniel.

If I have not said it already, Daniel has been an absolute pleasure to deal with. One of my favorite makers for sure!

Mmmm....D2....Though stuff, not as much shock absorption as S-7. A lot of stamping dies are made from D2
because the details of the die stay sharp a long time. It wears very slow in other words. These knives are going
to be around long after we are just a memory.

My collection is about have a new addition! :D
You know it! It is a cool design too, I have to do more of them! "Reverse tip tanto"

Much appreciated! Isn't that D2 packaging cool, it looks to be some vintage stock!

Exactly! The edge holding on the D2 is just killer and it is still tougher than most steels. I like the fact that it is almost a stainless steel as well, it seems to be a great overall premium steel.

Looking forward to seeing these develop !
Thanks! I think you'll especially like the big one in S7!

oh snap...it's getting warm in here...
 :D

They are almost ready for heat treat! (the 5160 one is even post ht ground!)

I worked on them all day yesterday and was getting closer to heat treat time when I decided to take a break, my full face respirator was feeling heavy on my head after grinding all day... I went and swept the new shop then cut down some small oak trees around the building when I decided to "test" my machete on my shin, turned out it worked pretty well and I had to rest today. Lol back on tomorrow!

Careful there buddy, we can't afford for you to chop some of your fingers off!

Yeah I had to take a day off from walking on it and should have gotten stitches but it is OK now and I'm back on it! I'm watching close for infection, it was a very deep cut.

I did some heat treating yesterday evening and have the knives in the kiln for a second temper cycle. :D

Progress...

5160 reverse tip tanto

Pre-heat treated knives - ignore the grind lines especially on the big one, you have to leave them thick for heat treat.

Cutting some stainless tool wrap for heat treat. Since these are air hardening steels they get very hot for a long time, 1725-1825 for 20 minutes or more. The wrap keeps out the oxygen which would burns the steel and remove the outer carbon skin or "decarb" the knives... the wrap keeps them clean as can be. The gloves are for hand protection, the wrap is thick and tough... one massive razor blade.
