GiantMouse GM2

Just curious, has anyone done a disassembly on this one yet? If so, any pics? Curious to see.

I have a GM2 from the exchange on the way, very excited about it. I initially really wanted the GMP2, but 6.6oz, holy crap. That is way too damn heavy. Really love the design on this one tough.

Do you of you guys notice the CF scales along the edges having little pieces missing? I have one along the back side that I mentioned when I got it, just wondering if I'm alone or if others have tiny little inconsistencies. Here's a picture:

The knife is perfect in every other way and I certainly don't want to send it back if this is a stupid little niggle. It doesn't bother me as long as I know it won't get worse.

That isn't a "stupid little niggle" IMO, if my knife looks like that when it arrives today I will not be happy. For the price, I expect ultra low void CF with near-perfect finishing. I won't say perfect because that's unreasonable, but that knife should not have left the factory.

That might get worse, CF can definitely fray especially if an edge is already poorly finished like that. If it were me, I would send that back. If you want to keep it, I would probably hit that with some 400 grit sandpaper to smooth it out.

Balls. Guess I'll reach out to them and see what they say.

EDIT: 5 minutes after I emailed them I got a response that they'd like to send me a new one and they apologized for not catching this during QA. As someone who generally always finds issues with everything I've been trying to not be so hard on things I buy so I was going to try to live with it, but sounds like it's worth sending back. Hopefully I get one that is just as good everywhere else like this one is.

I had this issue on my Spyderco, I just used some fine grit sand paper and went over it just a few times and it cleaned it right up.

Nice. Looks like they're right on the ball.

I wouldn't consider that acceptable in a >$300 knife. It sounds like the folks at GM don't consider it acceptable either!

I should mention too that they said they'd refund my shipping, so top notch support by them.

EDIT: Also got my beloved 0560 back, so here's a comparison of the two:

I must say, I didn't think anything could dethrone the ergos of the 0560 for me, but the GM2 just feels... great. Not that I like the 0560 any less, but the GM2 is easily just as comfortable, it's a joy to hold and handle in every grip I've tried.

Also just realized it looks like they do serial number them, inside the backspacer I have a 187. Guess they don't send them in order because I placed my order one minute after they went live... unless that's not the serial number.

I ordered mine 4 minutes after release and got #282

Shipped it back out today, emailed them and told them to check out the one they send me to make sure it's perfect, his response:

I normally can't check the knives before they go out from the fulfillment center. I do a full inspection on all the pieces before they go out to our fulfillment warehouse in Southern California.

But I intentionally hold a couple back in case I need to send any directly from here. So I will check those to see if I can just send you one from here.

Still very pleased with their support so far.

Looks like the GMP2 is all sold out. Didn't take too long.
