GiantMouse GM3...SEXY!

I didn't pick up on that. I got a bronze one, really like the design and at least it's a unique material unlike another Titanium scaled knife. Yes overpriced but what do you do...

If I had more disposable income I wouldn't have been opposed to buying one of the Ti models either, I'm definitely guilty of owning plenty of overpriced knives (*cough* Emerson Iron Dragon *cough*). I'm sure the Bronze versions will hold their value quite well since the demand seems to be very high.

The blade steel for both knives is stated as "M390 MICROCLEAN"...is that any different from standard M390 we see on lots of other knives? I've never heard of Microclean before...

Edit: never mind, it looks like that's the full name for M390...

The Microclean is a marketing thing from Bohler (it's a registered trademark) to describe their 3rd generation powder metallurgy steels. Basically just referring to the lack of unwanted inclusions in the steel, but not it's just M390. GiantMouse is just making it sound cooler.

Pretty sure grade 2 titanium is TC4 titanium, which means the titanium was made in China.

Grade 2 is commercially pure, unalloyed titanium, which is not used for a locking leaf (liners or frames) because it's too soft and wouldn't have the elastic memory. In this case, grade 2 is fine because it's not being use as a lock. TC4 is the Chinese designation for 6AL4V, which is what is called Grade 5 by western standards. Whether it's as free of other inclusions as 6AL4V from America is another question, but it is the same alloying composition theoretically.

I think this might be my first knife with a pure Ti handle...all the others have been an Al/V alloy. Some interesting material choices for both of these knives.

Is Grade 2 that much softer as to be prone to show more wear than Grade 5 alloy?

Really like the bronze version. I was trying to figure if there was a way I could swing one but they don't ship to Canada. When I finally saw it come up on the site they were already sold out so it made that decision easier. If any of you that got the bronze version decide you don't want it down the road feel free to message me.

As for it being the first to use bronze, wouldn't Going Gear's bronze handled edition of the Spider Monkey be the first?

I didn't know the GMP3 had a solid bronze handle which is pretty unique and had I known I would've probably tried to get one.

The Going Gear exclusive Spider Monkey is solid copper.

If i didn't just just deplete my budget with a couple flipeers (including a titanium handle one) a couple weeks ago, i may have been all over this. anyone see the closing action on this? the instagram video only shows flipping open, and then the video ends lol

There isn't a single thing about this knife that I don't like (except the price).

Missed out on the bronze run, but truth be told, I prefer the looks and weight of titanium. Can't wait to receive it!

Regards,
Adam

That's strange that they don't ship to Canada. When I checked out the site I read the shipping instructions memo thing, and it read to me that they should. Judging by their write up.

They should have gone bronze/bronze ano instead of the blue. Would have made for a cool look.

If you look under the Shipping Restrictions section on the GiantMouse side it says "CANADA: We apologize to our Canadian friends, but GiantMouse cannot ship folding knives to Canada due to issues with our fulfillment center and Canadian Customs."

I'll look to find one on the secondary market down the road. Given my preference for this size of knife I think I'd really like it.

I was in the same boat. I was intrigued by the bronze but really liking the reduced weight of the Ti. I logged in 10 minutes into the sale and the bronze was sold out so my decision was made. At least the Ti is a little unique being pure Grade 2 vs. the more common Grade 5 alloy.

I'm really eager to get this knife!

*** GM3 Quick Review ***

My GM3 Just dropped, so I wanted to give you a quick and dirty initial review.

First, some size comparisons to the current king of my right front pocket: the Small Inkosi

Now onto my initial review. Keep in mind I've owned this thing for about 30 minutes.

Looks: Beautiful and very classy. The two-tone Ti look is great with the contrast between the smooth and shiny handle slabs and the accent pivot ring, backspacer and clip. As far as the slab finish goes: think Spyderco Slysz Bowie and you'll be there. These have a nice polished look that I think will stand the test of time. I'm thinking you'll see some wear fairly quickly on the clip due to the finish used, but overall it's a very classy knife. I even like the look of the nail nick as that gives the knife a little extra bling without being out of place. Both means of deployment work exceptionally well. Speaking which...

Flipping Action: Stellar!!! The best flipper I've had was a Southard Tolk. While I've heard that they can be hit and miss, mine was an absolute dream and is the benchmark for any other flipper I buy. The GM3 is as good, if not better than the Tolk. The firm detent makes the knife actually feel like an assisted opener. I know that comparison gets thrown around a lot, but what I mean is that there is a solid amount of detent pressure, then once that is overcome, the blade fires out like it has some type of spring added to it. Again it's early in the game, but if you're looking for a great flipper, this HAS to be on your list!

Drop Action: This WILL free-drop easily without tension, and will do so with the lock-bar engaged and a decent wiggle. While the action is great, the fact that the blade is so light and thin makes it tough to drop as good as, say, a ZT0562CF or any other heavier bladed knife. It WILL do it, but not like a knife with a blade that weighs twice as much (or more) that this has.

Fit & Finish: Excellent. There is chamfering on the top and bottom of the handle that creates no hot spots, and the shape is great. The knife feels very smooth and refined.

Lock stick: Zero, Zip... NADA.

Lockup: Dead centered and rock solid.

Weight: Perfect. I logged on early enough to get my choice of the Ti and the Bronze, and in fact had both in my cart at check out time. After a few seconds of thought, I decided to go with just the Ti due to a combination of the looks AND the lighter weight. The knife feels very solid without being overly heavy. I'm not saying that the bronze would be *too* heavy, but I'm glad I got the Ti based on weight alone.

Ergos: This is a preference thing, but as stated the knife feels *very* good in the hand. There are no hot spots for my size Medium hands and fairly slender fingers, but YMMV. It is very thin top to bottom so I imagine carrying this will be a dream. I'm used to a Sebenza, which is fairly thick top-to-bottom, so this feels very thin to me. Again this is not a bad thing, just a very different thing. If you like slim, you'll love the GM3.

Overall Impression: I am very impressed with the GM3. Cost-wise it's a chunk of change for a Ti liner lock, but overall I think the value is definitely there. Add that to the fact that there are only going to be 300 of these (mine is 273), then I think it's a solid deal!

Edit: Forgot to add a picture of what was in the box!:

Thanks for the quick review! I have one waiting at home for me that I can't wait to dig into. Your review just made me more impatient to get home for the day.

I wish my pics could match Glock Guy's – they ain't even close – but here are some quick n' dirties from my mail drop today:

Solo:

(Well, "solo" with a Yes/No oracle coin that was a gift from Jim Wirth many moons ago, before he started GiantMouse...)

Dead centered:

With another "gentleman" type titanium folder:

Yet another "gentleman" folder, which also happens to be a liner-lock flipper:

(In case anyone's wondering, this is a one-off that Millit Knives made for New West KnifeWorks.)

With all my "gentleman" folders:

("Gentleman" is in quotes here, since everyone's got a different definition in mind.)

All-in-all I have to agree with what Glock Guy already stated -- excellent fit and finish, great ergos, no hot spots, amazing flipper action, no lock stick, no blade play, and, if I may add, it comes hair-popping sharp right out of the box.

Kudos to GiantMouse, this one's a keeper!

Regards,
Adam
