Ginormous Folding Knives?????

I like 3.5" blades, but have no personal use for anything larger...or heavier. That being said, a large Sebbie or Zaan is about the upper limit for me. I prefer a folder that weighs about 4 1/2 ounces or so, 3.3" blade...sort of like a PM2 and the like. EVERYBODY has their own opinions.

It's a sad day if we have to start justifying carrying a knife on a knife forum, or have supposed knife folks say that the knife we may like is unnecessary. :thumbdn:
This ^^^^^^^^^

But anyway.....

3.5" ish is the shortest blade I'll carry as a stand alone knife.

By law the largest I can carry everywhere is 4" edge. So that is my Spyderco Police at 4.125" with a 3.92" edge. But I much prefer my 4" Military as my large knife.

I also am one of those who doesn't work in a office. The extra blade length comes in handy. So does the longer handle, very much so with work gloves.

For sure.

I was going to take my Spyderco Junior for some use in the woods on a winter outing, but the handle just wouldn't work with gloves.
With bare hands, the ergonomics made the small handle work, but with thick gloves, no way.

Not all of us work in an office? I do field service on machinery and keep a 4" folder in my tool bag. Easy to fold up and just toss back in my bag. In my rock climbing days I carried a large folder clipped to one of my harness loops. Larger folder was the ticket when we had to pack tight and walk out gear on long trips.

I haven't found a folder over 3" I could comfortably carry in my front pocket and always have a small knife in my pocket but, that won't always cut it. [emoji1]

I prefer folders longer than 9cm or something like 3,7 inch

I really want that big ZT sinkevich folder but i hate framelocks and mildly disapprove of carbon fibre

I occasionally carry my Spyderco Szabo just because I can I guess. :) Do we really need a 400 plus horsepower car? Probably not but it sure can be fun.

Just as the same reason people will buy a $1000 knife they'll never use or why cleaver-style blades have become popular for EDC. They're big and cool to some people.
But you're right, they tend not to be very "PC" for office environments and will most likely get you in trouble. When I started wearing dress pants, I went down to a boker camp king because its hard to find pants with pockets that could hold all my pocket gear.

Not working in an office here
How would I reach the stems behind the wire fence, if not with a six inch blade?!

I edc a Spyderco Military. 4" blade 9 1/2" overall. It isn't the biggest knife, but it does get some reaction from non knife people. I try not to flaunt it and if needed by someone I hand it over folded. If it didn't have a black blade (dlc) I think it would look even bigger.
It is lite and rides easy in the edge of my pocket. I hardly notice it even in my thin work shorts. However, it doesn't compare to those Rajah ll's!!! Holy crap!

View attachment 640534 You never know when a watermelon will rear its ugly head.
The smallest one I used for a Watermelon was the BK24. No big deal. Cut around the whole thing and not straight through. Since I still couldn't reach the center I just turned the two half's in opposite directions which separated them nicely. Done.

I like 4" knives, slim though. I think they're the perfect length for me. I have the ZT301 it'a a big knife but it's too heavy for me. I do work in an office environment. But it's not like I take it out in front of people all the time although most know I do carry a knife on me.

Some people like driving SUVs, some people prefer hatch backs, and some nutters buy sedans. People don't generally buy for what they need, they buy for what they think they need (or want).

I find a 4" blade on most folders to be cumbersome to use. I've yet to find anything I can't do with a 3.5" blade that I can do better with a 4"-6" blade as far as folders go. Fixed blades are different though. If I'm cutting something odd I'd grab something else, but IMO a pocket knife is for the 90% of the tasks you do not the 10% you think you might do.

Everyone's different.

I found that I like larger folders with longer blades and my favorites are the ZT0200 and ZT0300.

That extra half inch or so can be crucial to keeping icing out of the pivot when cutting cake. :)
Seriously.

Twice so far I would have missed out on delicious ice cream cake if I hadn't had a knife on me (no other utensils around), and it would have meant big clean-up of the knife afterward if not for the extra blade length.

Some might be willing to trudge through life not prepared for the next time surprise cake shows up, but not me!

The pivot problem seems finally solved by Ken Onion and his CRKT Homefront. No more cake excuses.
