Last month my girlfriend asked me to get her a knife. Immediately I go online and start researching smaller handled blades, or ones with pink grips, etc. But when I come back a show her what I found for her, she hated every one, instead what does she want....the Spyderco Bug. In my opinion one of the most useless knives around but what is it good at? Being "so small and cute" as my gf puts it. So of course I bought it and it is neat...but completely useless. So I wanna know if you've had similar experiences or completely different ones. Even feel free to share stories about knives your girlfriends have bought you and how that turned out. Pictures to go along with stories are more then welcome.

Here's the bug if you haven't seen it:

I wouldn't call a Spyderco bug completely useless. I gave one to my girlfriend as well for a "purse knife" and it works for 99% of the actual things she needs it for.

Next up... a pink Ladybug.

i sent my girl friend off to winnipeg from vancouver drivin with a semi custom scar fixed blade and a spyderco ffg endura
she had to use the endura to fend off some dude at a casino that was too drunk and threating her.. lol

It's possible she just wanted you to buy her a knife for her to cut the tags off of the clothes you buy her. :p

I did have a girlfried once tell me she liked knives. I was thinking yeah, sure. Then she opened a drawer and she had several, mostly junkers, but she ended up with my BM Large Reflex. She slept with it under her mattress.

True, she probably will never need it for anything more than opening letters or cutting tape so for her you're right its not completely useless. But I would never EDC that thing, and hmmm the ladybug actually seems a decent size that you could get more than 1.5 fingers on it. How much do those go for?

Yeah like I said to DedRok, for her its probably perfect. But its not a good choice if you actually need a knife

I actually got my girlfriend a bug a while back to ease her into the knife world. She loves it and uses it every day, along with an old SAK.

So I guess it's really not so useless.

Damn well I don't know if my gf would have the courage to do this, but if she did she couldn't have done that with her bug haha the guy wouldn't have been able to see it

Purple LadyBug, VG-10 steel with lockbar... $31.00

The LadyBug is a great knife in all honesty. The owner of Spyderco said that that LadyBug/ManBug variant is probably the knife he EDC's the most other than some type or other Spyderco Prototype/Future Knife.

Top is the ManBug FRN, Bottom is LadyBug FRN. The main difference of ManBug and LadyBug is that the man has a wider handle and its FFG.

I guess my use of the word useless was too careless. I would never edc one because of numerous reasons that, to me, makes it "useless." But for her, and apparently several other girls out there, it is useful and perfect for what she needs a knife for.

Girlfriend occasionally steals my knives. Her little collection includes a Skyline, Shallot, AK-47 and a grip with yellow scales. If I'm honest, it also includes my blue 530, but to avoid embarrassment she's "borrowing" that.

Haha that's an awesome collection if you ask me. All affordable, high value knives

Hello,

My girl friend has a Spyderco Dragon Fly. She loves it and uses it all the time.

Have a good one,

Chris

The bug is far from useless.
I wear a Honey Bee around my neck and have used it for several things.
Anyways my best friend loved my grasshopper when I had it and I plan to get her a Spyderco in the future.

I'm a knife nut, and it seems to be catching around my place.

Wife- Kershaw Rake, Kabar MKI
Oldest daughter- ESEE Izula, Kabar PhatBob
Youngest daughter- ESEE Candiru, SAK Spartan

During the summer, ma gurlz carried a knife with them everyday, when school started, we had to through the "pat down" for the first few days.

Wife uses her Rake nearly everydau for something.

Mom carries a Case Stockman.

My wife wanted a knife. Then she picked up my BK2 and said, "If this would fit in my purse...." (she doesn't carry a purse, thank God). She settled on a CRKT Lake Thunderbolt II (not a small knife) for her little wallet thing she carries... and a SMU 710 on her bike. Along with some Streetwise 4,000,000sku pepper spray.

Here is the knife my wife carries in her purse. When i say let me get you something good you can use. she says " why , you always have 8 knives on you. " So i guess ill just buy them all for me. :)
