19 steps. ???
I had to change about 3 times because others already guessed.
Funny thing is I have made about 6 or so leather sheaths, and still have no idea.
I know I probably leave out all kinds of steps.
Draw a pattern (tried this last time seemed to make it a bit easier).
Cut pattern out trace it on the leather.
Cut the top pattern
cut the bottom
cut the welt
Cut more welts to stack
Skive the welts so they taper
Glue the welts together
Let them dry
Sand them when dry (mostly the top edge and inner edges so they are smooth because I don't cut them out very well!)
cut the keeper strap slot
burnish the edges of the belt loop
Die the inside of the sheath
Stitch the belt loop
Glue up the bottom sheet and the welt, let dry over night
Glue up the top sheet, let dry over night
Sand edges of sheath to get them nice and smooth
re die the edges once sanded
Cover in the brown/waxy edge stuff
Punch the holes for stitching
Stitch
Burnish the edges again (not sure if you do it in this order, because I don't use the edge treatment stuff).
Apply wax (or other protective sealant)
Then show it off to family or friends.
On my wet molded sheaths, this is different.
I don't die the leather, so much as darken it a bit with brown shoe polish for an antique/ uneven finish.
I like to seal it all with atom wax.
