Giving back contest

Block 3rd from left. Make a knife from a piece of bandsaw blade from an old sawmill. Would make a beautiful handle.

I like the first block. The figure of burl is not quite as active, but looks more solid without any voids.

I have a kitchen style Santoko in the works right now. That wood would look great on it. It will likely be an EDC type, and get more use outside the kitchen.

Thanks for the contest.

i like block one, in fist pic. I believe i would put it on a hunter. or maybe an up swept skinner.

The first one is my favorite. Would look nice on a hidden tang fighter I'm currently making. Thanks for the chance!

I really like the 3rd one in - going to heat treat my first blade (keeping fingers crossed!) that's a camp knife that would look great in those shoes!

Thanks Dan, I usually have the exact opposite of your luck :D

I like the colors in the second block from the left. I'd use it for a Cold Steel SRK blank that I bought off Ebay a while back. A few months back I modified the blade a little by grinding off the false edge at the tip because I wanted to use the knife as a camp/baton knife. Then I heat treated it and let my brother in law "help" me handle it. I ended up not pinning the handle because I didn't know any better. I should have made the handle longer too. When I got down toward the end of the project I found out there were a few things I certainly would have done different. Now I've been wanting to strip off the handle and do it right the second time. I guess I've just been lacking the motivation. But now that I see that second scale you've got....well I think I found my motivation!

I really like the block on the far left. I have no idea what it is, but it would look great on a hidden tang fighter or bowie. I'm just barely getting my feet wet, so I couldn't promise how soon I'd use it, but it would be something hidden tang.

Thanks for the opportunity.

The third one over on the first pic looks excellent to me. Would go great with a high layer damascus drop point.
thanks for the opportunity!!

Something about the first block is grabbing me(I'm guessing redwood burl) I have been thinking a bowie(W2 or 1095 with hamon) with a twisted WI guard....
thanks for the opportunity Dan

Oh!!! Oh!!! You make knives Scar. HEHEHEHEHE!!!;)

I like the far left block. I would definitely put it on the damascus blade that I won from Fred Rowe. Thanks for the chance and hope your good fortune stays with you.

I'd take the 1st block on the left. I'm guessing redwood burl. It would go on a Seki City damascus semi-skinner I've got waiting for handles. Maybe with a decorative spacer between the burl and the NS bolsters.

Thanks much for the chance, Lucky Dan!

I like them all, but my eye is drawn to the first block on the left. I would use it for a kitchen veggie chopper in A2 or SS so as not to distract from the wood. Thanks for the chance!

i like the third block in the first pic.
i'd probably use it to make fret markers on a bass guitar that i am in the process of building

thanks for the contest

Although I like the pattern changes in the first block, the color change, eyes and the curls in the burl of the third block would look excellent on a hunting knife Im making for a friend. Have you bought a lotto ticket yet?

I like the first block on the left best.
I'd use it for a small pocket fixed blade, with a 'stretched egg shape' handle
(if that makes any sence)

Dan,
Thanks for the opportunity.
I'd like to use the second block from the left for new scales on my Emerson Persian.
The patterns and varied shades of the wood would be perfect IMO to contrast and compliment the sweeping design of the blade and handle. And the pronounced darkness of the wood would lend the certain sinister but elegant effect I am looking for.
Haze gets me drooling over his custom Emersons and I would love the chance to return the favor!
Also, the second block from the left looks likely to fit the Persian's substantial handle. If it is a bit too short I would use deep maroon micarta for the area around the pivot with the wood gracing the main section.
BTW, congrats on your string of good luck. May it continue.
If I send you a buck will you buy a lotto ticket? We'll split the take!

I like number three as well. I will use it on a small drop point hunter that I am profiling out today.

The third block is the best in my opinion for burl and a ton of eyes im thinking it would look good on a skinner. .
