Please read everything first, you cannot just say "I'm in"...

Through total fault of my own, I missed my 20th anniversary at BF last year. To rectify that, I will have the GAW I should have had last year. Why host a GAW? Well, one, I like to do them. 2nd, it's a way to give back to the forum that has given me a place to go, hang out, blow off a little steam, and talk blades with like-minded porch denizens.

I originally came to BF to research Schrade knives. I spent a lot of time in the Schrade sub-forum back then. I've since shifted my focus to "The Porch", as my appreciation and collecting goes beyond just Schrade knives now. Through the last 20 years you members have been entertaining, helpful, encouraging, a good listening ear when I was having a tough time, and a good sounding board for modding ideas and such. So thanks to all of you and to Spark for giving us a place to play!

Okay, enough of that wordy nonsense....the GAW. I have around 5 knives to give away. They are not new. Like any survivor, they may have dings. scratches, and years of honest use on them. If you win one of them, I would prefer that you not re-sell it. You are more than welcome to give it away. That's the generosity we like here on the Porch.

To qualify for the GAW, you need to be basic paying member or higher, or simply have at least 100 meaningful forum posts (contributing to the discussion of knives, not just "cool knife bro"). Select one knife you would like your name to be put into for drawing. You can use your slot to nominate someone else, but you have to choose a knife for them.

This is a participation GAW. you can share pics or stories, but I do want you to tell us what brought you to Blade Forums, and why you stayed

Now, on to the knives! Sorry, no forum knives, you guys cleaned me out last time!

This first one is one I recently shared in the Guardians thread. It's one of the new TEW lambfoot knives. Shadow pattern with houndstooth shield. The micarta is something that Evan Nicolaides esnyx esnyx gave me years back. I believe it's some that he made when he was just getting going, now look at him!

This next one is a face only a mother could love. I call it the Franken-lifter. Made with parts from a couple different knives, it's a utility-driven knife for sure. I gave it some stag pants, but hey, even they aren't that good looking. I even cut a fancy swedge in the blade, LOL. However, the knife is built to work, and help you play after work!

This next one started life as an EO utility knife. I think it was a Kutmaster, but the blade stamp was ground off as a second. Still, there was nothing wrong with it in my eyes. I dressed it up with some of my stag. It's a smaller one, around 3 1/4" closed. It's pinchable and not stiff on the fingers opening and closing.

The next knife is a Schrade Walden 196 pattern. I think it was a florist-type knife, with a slight hawkbill blade, that I ended up grinding flat to make more of a sheepsfoot blade. It has hunter green jig bone and a cool arrowhead shield. The blade has a nice patina already going. I think it would make a nice gardening knife or whatever kind of knife.

The last knife is a custom custom. It's a Jeff Mitchell custom, I think it's one of his earlier knives. The original knife had some Koa (I think) that ended up cracking. I put some nice stag on it. I also re-ground the blade a little thinner. It's smaller at 3 1/2" closed, but a nice size and capable knife. It's not pinchable. and the pull is a little stiffer, so maybe not ideal for softer fingernails.

Okay, that's it for now...maybe I'll add something else, who knows???

Good luck!

Congratulations on your 21st Glenn! 😁 As I hope you know, I'm a big admirer of your work, and I always enjoy seeing the knives you work on for other members. I was absolutely thrilled to win a knife in one of your generous giveaways, a few years back. Hence, no entry from me, I'll let others experience the Glennbad magic 😉 Thanks for this great giveaway, and hopefully see you here for your 40th anniversary 😎 Good luck everyone 👍

Congrats on the 21 years here on BF's.
I am very very tempted to enter because I'd love to owned another example of your great work, but I'm not sure I'd really carry any of these knives so I'll leave them for people who would do more than just handle and look at them.

i have been a member going on 10yrs a mere newcomer compared to you. i think your work looks stunning. i wish i could do what you do so well.
i would be proud to be in for your GAW Jeff Mitchell custom. congratulations and happy belated anniversary.

Hello Glenn and congrats on your 21 years.
Like most, I’ve collected knives for many years but on a small scale and until 2020 they were all modern folders or fixed blades. While searching the web for a modern folder with stag scales I stumbled upon pictures of a Northwoods Fremont in stag, and that day slipjoints entered my radar. As I looked around more I started remembering the times when I was young and my grandfathers would let me use their Case brand knives to help them in whatever task they were working on. I bought a few and showed them to my sons, who also thought they were pretty damn cool. So now part of my collecting is to one day pass the knives onto them and their future children. My favorite are single-blade clip points but if it’s a two-blade I really like it to have a lifter. I don’t use lifters often but I think it reminds me of the novelty of a knife/tool and not take my collecting so serious that it’s no longer fun. Thank you for this opportunity Glenn and if possible I’d like to be in the running for the “Franken-lifter.”
Have a great day knifers!

Thank you for the generous giveaway and congratulations on ticking over the 20 year mark. I was just starting high school when you joined up here!

I joined up initially because I wanted to start making knives, I have played around putting a few together but with little kids I struggle for time. It’s something I’ll come back to someday. After getting through the door I fell in love with the community and have been back just about everyday since. I always grew up with slipjoints on the farm as tools and appreciated them as such, being here has turned it into a hobby/passion.

I’m tempted by the franken-lifter but I’ll go in for the clip. Looks like it would be a good practical fox and rabbit skinner. Something I’d probably pass on to one of my sons someday as a hunting/work knife.

Where do you source your stag? It’s quite beautiful.

forgot to add a photo, on the theme of stag here is some from an animal I hunted myself.

I originally came to bladeforums because I was curious about the knife used by Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lamb and in Hannibal. The two scenes specifically are "ready when you are Sgt. Pembry", and Hannibal reaches down for some sort of trapper which I could not identify. The other knife is non traditional but has been found to be a spyderco harpy of some sort modified for the movie. At one point I had another question regarding the knife used by James Bond which appeared to be traditional but its not truly clear. Ive loved knives ever since I was a kid tbh and started off with slipjoints. However, I enjoy almost anything with an edge, traditionals, moderns you name it. And yes, its always been single blade, because I have mentioned prior attempting to mod a two blade trapper even when I was in the 8th grade. Good thing it was just a junk store reindeer foreign made one. But yes, single blade trappers was the original reason I joined up. His user name doesnt come up but Trand or 2dead, used to have all of these CSC half moon trappers. I guess I stuck around and made some new friends and learned about more patterns. Even met some of them in person. I remember when I signed up till the year I actually i finished college and had time and money for these things. I had just missed the gec rendezvous that year in 2015 when I came back in full force. What a rabbit hole these things became!

Edit, O yeah I suppose put Peregrin Peregrin 's name in again for that Jeff Mitchell, thanks for the generous opportunity, Ive had the pleasure of working with ya for a few of my mods in my early gec collection, treasured pieces for sure (15,48). Also fun fact, waynorth waynorth actually gave me an example of esnyx esnyx 's early work as well! Think philllll philllll was part of the early work too!

Please indicate which knife you'd like to be put in drawing for...

Glenn, Congrats on your 21st-20th anniversary and thanks for the GAW! It made me look at my stats and I realized that September 2nd will be my 20th anniversary! Time flies when you are having fun! I'll have to plan my own GAW.

I have always been a lover and accumulator of knives, starting in my single-digit years. I'd pick up one here or there at sporting goods stores, flea markets, etc. My friends and relatives shared my interest and we'd trade knives and generally have fun showing them off to each other. Then I discovered the internet was a place where I could expand my knowledge and buy sharp stuff. Oh boy, was I in trouble! My interest in forged fixed-blade knives brought me here to the custom knife forum and ultimately to moderating and passing time here on the Traditional Forum.

This has been a great place! Not just for the knowledge and introduction to the traditional knife world, but a refuge where I've made many virtual friends and acquaintances.

I don't generally enter the GAWs but if you don't mind I'll enter this one. I'd love to have a knife modded by you and I love stag and shadow pattern knives. If you could tag that Mitchell for me, should I be a lucky winner, that would be great!

Thanks again!

It's certainly tougher and tougher to get any decent stag(that doesn't cost an arm and a leg). I've been fortunate through private sales and knife shows. I find my best stag comes from pieces others may toss aside as unusable...

Congratulations on your 20 Years Glenn, that is just awesome, and you have been quite the awesome Porch member!

I love your work and proud to carry it. This isn't an entry as I have been very lucky in the past, I love what you are putting up so generously as prizes.I already have your fantastic work and as Jack said have others enjoy it.
Thank you for your generosity in this giveaway my friend!

Good luck to all :)

Congratulations on 20 years, and now 21!

I came to Bladeforums (and the porch) in 2015 because I wanted a new pocketknife to carry for my wedding, and to my frustration, I couldn’t just order one up and have it be the equal of my father’s Case and Buck knives from the 1960s, nor could I find anything in the pattern I liked. This led me down a rabbithole of knives vintage, new, and everything else. It’s nice to drop in and read about (and sometimes post about) the simple pleasures in life.

I’ll put my name in the hat for the Franken-lifter. Thanks for your generous GAW -I’ve very much enjoyed reading your posts and seeing your creations over the years.

Congrats on your 21 years!

Count me in for the TEW lambsfoot.

I joined BF in 2000. In the 90s I was on rec.knives, but when that faded away I needed a replacement. My brother told me about BF, and here I am. As time goes by I focus more and more on the porch because it is a friendly place.

Congrats on the anniversary, what an achievement! Although once you're in, it's definitely hard to leave haha. I would love a chance at the green Schrade for the GAW!

As for what brought me to BF, funny enough I think I originally created an account to do some research on chef/cooking knives and then went idle for a while. About a year later I was looking around online when a picture of a slipjoint caught my eye. I had to know what it was and if I could track one down. Funny enough it was actually one of the forum knives, which brought me right back to BF. After that came the discovery of GEC and from that point I was hooked. I've built up a solid collection (in my opinion) and even added a custom since then, and have loved getting to see what others enjoy, all the different styles, types, preferences, etc. that are out there as well as the history. I never did end up grabbing that version of the forum knife, but definitely found others that I have been overjoyed to acquire.

Hi Glenn and congratulations on a great run here. I came to knife forums by accident mostly I guess - surfing the internet. I stayed because of guys like you being more the norm here than the exception - and wow the knowledge here on anything and everything even marginally knife related.

You gave me this knife and it's a real treasure. So I won't be entering. You're one of the best and you're proving it again. Thanks again for this gem.
