Go Bag

Chenko I thought about that too, but the problem is uniformity and organization. If you have all sorts of stuff in there, even sorted by bagging certain items, you still need to unload everything to say, get to something at the very bottom? The reason I like "tactical" bags is because I can put pouches in a variety of places on them, and still be able to pick what goes where and inside, Mystery Ranch however combines huge size with pockets, I like pockets. Or pouches, more diverse the better, like with my tools in my tool boxes? Everything is neatly sorted, and clean inside. I like order in things. And in an emergency situation, I would like to have my bag with items neatly organized inside and where I need them and where I can easily get to them. Without conflict, or confusion.

However for size in account, the max bag series also has duffles in their offerings too. Which have straps for both shoulder carry, though I would've liked to see a waist belt added to those....to stop over movement of bag when moving briskly or about where bag rocking could get annoying. I carry a Mongo daily, and it bugged me sometimes that it slides around, so thats when I take its waist straps and click it. :)

I mean... if you're trying to ruck clothes and gear and large ammounts of food and tools and stuff like that back into a remote location, for bulk volume, these things will get the job done at 15 dollars. It's not so much a go bag as a gear bag.

I have 2 BOBs - his & hers. I need to cross-load a bit better, but hers is more of a commercially-prepared 72-hour bag with all the usual stuff... first aid, duct tape, plastic bags, signal, hand-crank radio, flashlight, etc. I've added an old mora, ranger handbook, and plussed up the first aid kit with some more items.

Mine is a ALICE pack, medium. It has the cordage, e-tool, MSR water filter, camp (cookware, firestarters, etc.) and expedition gear (shelter, tools, etc.). I leave room in it for food and water as needed (her bag has some survival rations and water bags (like capri sun-sized). Clothes will be packed, but kept at a minimum, really.

I know this is an old thread but has anyone ever used Red Rock Mountain packs or level 3 packs. They seem to be a decent price but I know you often get what you pay for.

Just added a priority EDC bag - maxpedition jumbo versipack. I like it because of the main single strap with a waist strap retainer, if desired - keeps the bag from swinging around. Plus, I can wear it underneath my ALICE pack if needed, as opposed to web gear.

Hard part is keeping it from looking overly tactical to the point where you can go out & about with it and not attract too much attention. Sometimes stealth is better - one could use an old laptop bag or messenger bag while interacting with the general populous.

In urban/suburban environments, it is best to meld into the surroundings - be a gray man.

I just bought an Eberlestock HalfTrack - I'll have to try it out and see how it works. My current BoB is packed in an original Eagle R.A.I.D. that has worked well but has never been sufficient for colder weather...

blake

I have far too many go bags... I have a couple of buttpacks, 3 different shoulder bags, a couple of small packs, a jacket that's loaded up for survival purposes. It's like finding the perfect knife; the perfect go bag is a journey, not a destination.... :D

ditto
have so many bags its crazy
but most have served different purposes. tho there are numerous ones that are no longer used at all, and it may be time to start clearing some out. like knives, guns and bicycles. just keep adding them without ever letting any go....
they all do different things. the bag i carry everyday is not the one i prefer as my edc when traveling. my dayhike bag rarely gets used for overniters. and the dayhike bag changes with seasons and region. day hike on a summer day in missouri has no need for extra clothing, so carry a very minimal bag. but summer hike in oregon carry at least a rain jacket, extra pair of wool socks, a light wool baselayer, thin liner gloves. living parttime in each of these states creates need for different gear. or at least thats how i justify it:D

and then you guys go and start a thread like this one and i start getting the wants for another........
in fact, i recently ordered the mystery ranch dragon slayer tho i already have the camelbak version, the trizip. when the mr arrives ill let ya know the differences and which one i prefer(ymmv) and the other will go up on the exchange page

Sadie: I use the Mongo for daily use too :P I like it, but with alot of stuff in it, it kills to carry lol. I love the nifty little pockets, every single one is used :D its awesome!

well ive used that mongo edc for about 2 months now and am gonna give it up. even tho there are some features i really like about it, when packed its a mother to carry weight-wise(the bag itself is much heavier than many others ive edc'd) and im just not liking shoulder carry at all. have used numerous messenger style bags i like better...but personally finding one of my old backpacks the better choice for edc. another real deal breaker for me has been that there is no carry handle. i thought about making my own but never got round to it. reckon it will go up with a few others on the exchange sometime soon....

I'm currently running with the Kelty Redwing 3100. Solid bag with nice ergos and other features. Not camo, though...

My EDC is the large Bail Out Bag from countycomm.com. Solid construction, lots of pockets to organize gear, with a nice concealed pocket, as well.

OK, thinking of getting a pack what do you guys think of this:

http://www.tacticaltailor.com/modularoperatorpack.aspx?variation=2420

The ONLY things I would like to see that would make this my perfect pack are:
1. Could use a pair of PALS cross straps added on shoulder straps
2. could use more PAL rows extended higher up along the left and right sides of the pack
3. Not sure if already there PALS on bottom of pack and or pair of tie straps to secure sleeping bag or pad
4. Incorporate a laptop storage space similar to the Urban Operator Pack
5. Finally, stowable or removable shoulder / waist straps would be great.

Any thoughts?

Reading most of this thread leaves with more trouble to decide a new pack.

Can you guys recommend a few?
Capacity about 1900-2200cu(+/- 30-35L) and Molle webbing would be nice.
Price point of 150 bucks is about max.

So far I realy like the 5.11 Rush 24, Badlands Diablo and the TAD Gear F.A.S.T. Pack EDC v4.
There is a 5.11 dealer in the Netherlands. For Badlands and TAD gear i havent found a european dealer yet.

I actually got rid of the bag, but this past weekend, someone gave me one...as a gift... ugh....

I'm using a falcon 2, and a condor 2. But as was just said, stealth is better, and max bags have been drawing some attention, a bit annoying since I guess not many people use molle strapped bags around orange county to much. I am actually looking at a North Face bag at a local sporting good store as my edc bag, and just use alot of maxpedition pouches and etc to divide and organize my stuff. I hate stuff flying around aimlessly its annoying.

I haven't been on here as much as I would like :( been so annoying getting other stuff done, and trying to get time to browse and post, :(

New stuff going on though is new gear:
-Verizon Wireless GZone phone, rugged, waterproof, shock and squish proof, I got it as my main calling phone when I am out and about cause I've broken 2 blackberries, a droid incredible, and an evo being out and about. So its become my main phone, only cost $5 extra every month adding it to my line.
-Verizon Droid X, new gizmo dodad that a friend hooked me up with, not going to go with new apple iphone. This little monster fits the bill NICELY.
-Just ordered and got new Esee Junglas, I was able to break mine while running around doing chores and sleeping outside on grand parents delano ca property.
-Just got LWRCi PSD, Short barrel rifle for home, after months and months of anxious waiting.

Waiting on:
-To save enough for new Nikon D700 and a few lens and misc items.
-Custom TNF Bag which a friend has been altering the interior with straps and backing mounted pouches for cleaning kit, magazines, and the psd. among a few other items. Sure is a whole lot less eye catching than Maxpedition and other brands that scream tactical. Which has admittedly gotten me searched at the court house a few times, though nothing in it. was thinking of cutting off all the molle straps on the outside of my khaki remora so it doesn't catch so much attention. I removed threading on my 5pack knife's logo so it wouldn't stick out so much, it now serves as a 3mil's home.

Maxpedition for me, is ALOT of hit and miss, threading for some can either be really top notch, for others coming apart at the seems, some things like on my vulture bags, are not aligned. Really bad quality for some stuff. I've seen basic outdoors gear bags generically at big 5 or sports authority sometimes of better or higher quality than Maxpedition. However some items have been really great :) just depends on which pick of the lot you get.

I really like 5.11 now, before? Not so much. Before I went to maxped, the 5.11 bags I had, kept having zipper issues, and stitching would come apart after only a week of carry casual use. Nothing straining.

I was almost set on the 5.11 Rush 24, untill i noticed it doesnt have a waist band.... Big bummer. So far the Maxped Condor-2 looks promising.

Still searching for a TAD dealer, badlands seems a bit over my budget and i dont feel stretching to much for something that isnt used enough to do so.

Your comment on maxped has me worried a bit...

edit; Just noticed Tad is also a bit out of budget with $324 ex shipping

Spartan, how did you manage to bust a Junglas?

To stay on topic though, I've found myself going from "high tech" and compartmentalized Maxpedition (Pygmy Falcon) to a circa 1991 German Alpine rucksack...Same thing with my main pack..went from a Falcon II to a MOLLE Becker Patrol with two side pockets and a front pocket attached. I really like the "bag" type bags with a drawstring/rool up top it seems.

Hmm that Blackhawk Cyclone looks good. Same as the stringray, looks even better. A bit over my budget but 175 bucks isnt to bad. Now to find a european dealer.
Waterrat could you place some closeup shots of the cyclone pockets?
A shot of how the main pocket opens and an inside shot and some shots of the smaller pockets would be great. There doesn't seem to be much reviews or other info on the pack.
edit; Just found a UK dealer :) Does the Cyclone come with or without bladder?

I think i get it. He was running around and fell with the knife in hand. Landed on the blade, being the man of INFI steel little spartan is, the Junglas broke.
Simple as that

Have been reading up on the Blackhawk S.T.R.I.K.E. Cyclone. Realy looks like a great pack.

@ Basb, dont be worried, I still buy from them, its just sometimes I have to send crap back and wait for a replacement. Or if something simply falls apart and I've only used it to carry first aid, school books, and minor items, for a week...than yah, its going back lol. But they still make good stuff. I've just gotten to the point of buy and sell, what I use I keep, what I don't I sell or give away to family members or family friends. Pay it forward kinda thing, cause someone else can always use it. But thats what I've learned buying their stuff. ALOT of hit and miss, but the few gems that are good, have taken abuse from backpacking to track days, being stuffed with racing helmet, or carrying tools and etc in them. So its fine, nothing will last forever in terms; and I acknowledge I will readily have to buy stuff here and there, over and over in my life time. No biggie. You wanna play, than youre ganna pay. And the toys will wear out. Same goes for my bike motors or car engines... :(

@ DH1, shhhh hahahahahaa. My own stupidity, and everything has its wear and break point, not ganna warranty claim it, it did its job.

@ Adam, yes...hahaha :X

@ 1066, NO. was my own abuse and neglegent activities lol. I will not elaborate ;P :X

@ Basb, good explaination ;P but since it was my own actions, I didn't see fit to claim it, the damn thing cut countless grape trees, and vines. Also made fire wood, and I used to dig small holes looking for crap I buried as a kid. Got to thinking of the abuse video Jeff posted, lol...hahahahaha. Long story short, I amazed my kid cousin who was visiting from tx, he asked if he could have it, said sure, just dont try to claim its replacement from Esee or I'll cook you with it. He agreed. I'm trying to save enough $ for a bulk buy on 3's or 5's for xmas season to give to family members, I wouldn't trust giving them generic big 5 sporting good knives....maybe micro cans of WD40 too ;P

What a week...to many family members for funeral that was earlier today. Weird how life works out.
