Go Large--The BF Big Folder Thread

While I have bunches of large knives, my current edc are a Cold Steel 4MAXX on my right side and an AD10 on my left. Nice blades, glad I bought them.

I haven't been on this site in awhile. Can't see how to load pics from my folder. All I can find is the one requiring a url. I gave up on photobucket when they started requiring ransom payments.

Well, welcome back, Robert. For posting pics I use Imgur desktop version, uploading to there from my phone, using their size editing feature, then clicking on the pic there, copying the BB code and pasting that directly onto its own line along within my text. Works like a charm....

After mentioning the long-discontinued Lone Wolf (pre-Benchmade) Harsey T2 Tactical in a previous post, I had to pull mine out and look at them. I have the black/red laminated wood version as well as the rare black/green version, which is still NIB. I had two of the black/green knives and gifted one to a friend.

The tactical version has a top swedge to make it a bit quicker and lighter in the hand. The blade is 4" and the handle is 4 7/8". The stabilized laminated wood scales have stainless steel liners.

The black/red one has only been carried a little bit as I want to avoid marking it up or having to sharpen it. Mr. Harsey's designs are wonderful!

The use of CPM S30V was something new back then. This knife is S-M-O-O-T-H in every way, from the action to the actual feel in the hand. Fit and finish is just great. I think it's one of the rare knives that is both brutish and classy at the same time.

Thanks for posting pics of your T2. I really wasn't familiar with that one and am struck by how similar it is to the Spartan Harsey. The two knives not only share a design language but are close to synonymous from butt to tip. I imagine the grip from one to the other would be all but identical with your T2 perhaps having a more 3D feel in hand. One common design feature that I'm particularly fond of is the rising, jimped thumb ramp with drop off similar to the those you see on knives by Les George and RJ Martin among others.

I fell for my SHF so hard that I just bought an unadorned/all stonewashed one on the Exchange that'll be a work user for me and one I expect will be a frequent companion.

I'm glad you liked them. I wish I had taken a photo of the back view of the knife. It would have shown more of how contoured and shapely the handle is, as well is the nice shape of the back-spacers.

I have all three Harsey Tacticals, the T-1, T-2 and T-3. I love those blades. I prefer the blade with the saber point over the flat ground blade. Although, my main edc is a pair of Spyderco Militarys, one left and right. And on those, I love the full flat ground blade.

Love that tactical banana. I bought the mini version (Horseman) and love it but since I started messing around with Cold Steel stuff, it seems small. The full-size CQC-8 is on my list!

Thanks i like the 8 with its 3.9” blade and bc it carries nice for the size being slimmer in pocket than most full size Emersons and only 5 oz. i had a horseman also or “mini” 8 which is a 3.5” blade so not what i think of as mini really but definitely much smaller than the full size. Id love a super 8 also but i say go for a full size you will like it!

Two new additions arrived 12-16-20. A early "Christmas Present" from Myself and I, to Me. :D
Cold Steel Kudu with Ring Lock, and Cold Steel Kudu Lite slipjoint.
Both are 5.75 inch closed, possess a 4.25 inch 5CR15MoV blade, and are an "amazing" (for their size) "2.7 ounces" according to the boxes.
(I guess the split ring, and up-turned lip on the ring lock don't add a measurable amount of weight?)

The Lite was in my pocket from 12-16-20 until 12-21-20. The ring lock was in my pocket from 12-21-20 to 01-01-21. The Lite went back in my pocket 01-01-21. Not sure how long it'll be before it comes out, and the ring lock goes back in.

So I read through the first 10 pages and the last 5 pages, and this seems the perfect place for my question. I'm trying to assemble a top 5 of "ridiculously fun folding swords." My totally arbitrary rules are:
  • only one knife per company (Otherwise they'd all be Coldsteel)
  • in the sub $250 range
  • Available to purchase (not discontinued/sold out/custom.)
From what I've read/seen so far, I'd put my working list as follows. Would love to hear suggestions for other options to consider.
  1. Cold Steel - Espada XL (Half the posts here are this knife, it's a fun one.)
  2. Kizer - Megatherium (Considered the Sheepdog XL instead, but love this design.)
  3. Svord - Giant Peasant
  4. Boker Magnum - Pocket Kukri (Seen some QC issues, but still a fun one.)
  5. Working on the 5th - let me know your suggestions.
Thanks!

How about a Paragon Estiletto, not a folder but an out the front single action. It is definitely fun and is a pocket sword, but, comes in at $260.

Paragon Estiletto Tanto OTF Automatic Lightning Bolt (5.5" Red Serr) - Blade HQ
