Go Large--The BF Big Folder Thread

This looks good. What is it?

This is a beefy 'hand-full' of a folder...

Man oh man.... that Ontario Hossum folder is one of the very few knives I have ever lusted after. Great steel, great size, sculpted handles, and the fit and finish are legendary.

I found that knife about 6-8 months before it could get on my Christmas list many years ago. It may have been discontinued by the time I discovered it.

Then one day *poof*... they were either gone or 3X the retail price. What a great knife.

And there's a matching fixed blade.View attachment 1476856

The folder is Ontario, and the fixed blade is Spyderco. Both are a Hossum design.

I'll answer for our friend JAB JAB . That's a somewhat unusual Cheburkov Scout in that it has smooth, unadorned handle scales. Most of that model you see have the "Pyramid" exterior milling while others feature various inlays. I know that JAB has also more recently picked up one of the latter as well. The Scout is quite similar in size to a Shirogorov F95, though mine comes in a taste longer with a 3.875" or 98.4 mm blade.

The folders I carry and consider "big" are the Benchmade 710, AFCK, Presidio II CFE, Zero Tolerance ZT 0301, Lone Wolf Harsey T2, and original Spyderco Manix.

But recently, I started experimenting with some Cold Steel offerings. Now, I also occasionally EDC various Recon 1 models and sometimes even the 4 Max Scout. I have an Espada XL en route but I know I won't be EDC'ing that one!

I recently picked this one up (seems like a lot of folks are panic buying), and it’s DEFINITELY my largest folder. The pocket clip is typical CS, but the lock has broken in very nicely.

I sand a strip about the width of a piece of clear/Scotch tape across the handle, right where the clip sits, and this helps a lot. (Some folks bend their clips, but on Voyagers I prefer to sand and retain the tension.)

Mine is currently sitting on my dresser with a couple coins under the clip, I used this method for my SR1, and it worked like a charm

Pic from the summer, my 3 biggest folders. Dont' know if they're "BF" but definitely bigger than what I normally carry.

That Crooked River is definitely a "BF" and one of my very favorites in the big boy category. I liked mine from the beginning, but even more so since replacing the orange backspacer with standoffs.

I carried another large one today and I'll post a couple pics of my Spartan Harsey Folder that haven't appeared in this thread before.

I've been eyeing the SOCP folder for a long time, and I finally pulled the trigger. Not a lot of high-quality knives in the >4" range, and dang but this is everything I hoped it would be. While it's not a "church picnic" sort of knife, it's a lot less scary-looking than similar knives like the CS Frenzy or Daggerr Vendetta. Love the CF Elite handles, too.

A hopefully useful size comparison (Military and Griptilian), sorry about the poor lighting.

After mentioning the long-discontinued Lone Wolf (pre-Benchmade) Harsey T2 Tactical in a previous post, I had to pull mine out and look at them. I have the black/red laminated wood version as well as the rare black/green version, which is still NIB. I had two of the black/green knives and gifted one to a friend.

The tactical version has a top swedge to make it a bit quicker and lighter in the hand. The blade is 4" and the handle is 4 7/8". The stabilized laminated wood scales have stainless steel liners.

The black/red one has only been carried a little bit as I want to avoid marking it up or having to sharpen it. Mr. Harsey's designs are wonderful!

The use of CPM S30V was something new back then. This knife is S-M-O-O-T-H in every way, from the action to the actual feel in the hand. Fit and finish is just great. I think it's one of the rare knives that is both brutish and classy at the same time.

The ZT 0055 comes in at a blade length of 3.75” with an overall length of 8.75” but is a beefy folder no doubt. The SLT hidden flipper tab system in neat (seen folded away in the lock side pic), runs on its own bearings, and overall is a nice tribute to the GTC airborne custom folder. Just received a fade ano job to spice up the plain gray Ti scales recently . Maybe not the most practical EDC but its a lot of knife!
