Nice one, BMC. The Crooked River has been on my list since it came out. I've already bought one, but it was a gift for my son who carries and uses his a lot.

I bought one when they first came out and carried it for a bit but I had my eye on something else and sold it. I decided that I wanted a bigger folder (4 inch blade) to carry everyday and knew I wanted a CR back in my pocket. Man, I really enjoy this one.

Thanks for sharing this! Now I see where cold steel gets inspiration for some of their blade shapes. The arburese looks just like an Espada!

The arburese actually looks very similar to the knife that I believe inspired the Espada. The Espada is actually based on the Spanish Navaja folding knife. Some of them were quite large, hence the Espada XL.

Completely forgot about a 5th big folder I own, this little behemoth:

A cheap United Cutlery - Willumsem "Blondie". I couldn't resist it at sale price. A whole big 4.3" slab of 440c steel and a 5.75" slab of g10 for under $25, was definitely an impulse buy purely for it's tacticool factor, but I remember I added it to the cart on another online order to get to the free shipping price, the saving on shipping made it even cheaper.

Forgot about it, and I just saw the box today and decided what the heck, I would even carry it... its actually not that bad all things considered.

well, actually the word Espada in my country means "Sword", literally. Dagger is "Daga" and double edged knife (of small size and usually designed for concealed carry) is "Puñal". The classic navaja shape is similar to the one used in the Cold Steel Espada folder, but not far from the classic Italian stiletto shape and other ones like the Resolza (Extrema Ratio) or the Fiorentino

These are my two classic navajas made in my country in 1890, compared to my CS Ti-Lite Stiletto
They were of all sizes and shapes, and usually had a ratcheting mechanism with a characteristic opening sound. The classic "clipped" point of the so-called Bowie blade shape is similar to the navajas made in Albacete (the highest quality, most famous ones), and that's pretty close to the Bowie-ish blade shape of the CS Espada.
So, all in all, the Espada is a very nice reinterpretation of the classic Spanish navajas

The word Espada is found through many languages in various forms. Epee in french, meaning sword. Or spade in english even comes from Espada.

There are many designs for the folding Spanish navajas. Thank you for sharing your picture of those two with the stilleto like tips.

I was only trying to say that the cold steel Espada (literally meaning sword) was designed to mimic the look of those spanish clip navajas.

Speaking of Navajas - here is one resting on a 14" dia. Basque beret. This is a large pizza knife :D

Very excellent hat too. Beautifully made by the Boinas Elósegui a small 150+ year old family company in the Basque region of Spain.

All this posted by a French Canadian "Mainah", born and bred :).

Cheers, Ray
