It's not very often that I see a knife "type" that I wasn't already familiar with. New models or models from lesser known makers, sure, but not a whole new type of knife. That thing is awesome... now we just need a modern version. Seems like it'd be pretty simple to manufacture.View attachment 788278 View attachment 788279 View attachment 788280 View attachment 788282 Here is a 9” (blade length) Swedish barrel knife.

Which ones?Gunther85 What are those things?
Swedish barrel knives date back to the 19th century. They are like a folding Puukko. The birch handle is broached with a rectangular hole, and has a ferrule on each end to hold it together. The foldable knife rests in the handle in both the open and closed positions. The lock is a small leaf spring with a hole in it which engages a pin in the handle. The knife goes together only one way.Gunther85 What are those things?

At first glance you would think so wouldn't you? Until you handle one & see it needs to freely slide into the handle folded, yet when open (blade in the opposite direction to folded) it needs to slide into the handle & get tight before it locks so it has as little as possible up/down or side-to-side blade play.Seems like it'd be pretty simple to manufacture.
The bigger one is a Reese Weiland Slash Sword, the other is a Fatty Tanto, also from Reese. I bought this Strike Prototype last night. These two from a few pages back:
Here is a modern version in M-390, but it’s not quite as long.View attachment 788512View attachment 788513View attachment 788514
Seeing as Barrel knives have cropped up here's one I made. A copy of an old 3" one I own.

As I understand it all old traditional Barrel knife inner blade/holders are matched to their handles, they aren't interchangeable.
I'm so excited to see barrel knives appear here! It's been my intention to try to get a modern one for some time but they are hard to google. :/
I always thought of these barrel knives as sort of like gravity knives. Cool and sometimes I wonder why they didn't catch on more, but ultimately abit of an oddity and dead end. These barrel knives are an awesome way to get a real handle on a folding knife.
I imagine that they probably weren't advantageous enough over say an Opinel that they are worth the exacting manufacture that I'mSoSharp describes.
I have the 0452CF,91bravo . Is the 0452Ti a new model? About the only thing a dislike about my knife is the stupid little black ZT clip on it. Is that the stock clip on the Ti model? Sure would like to get my hands on one of those.
