Going clipless

Does anyone else remove the clips from their knives? I took the clip off my Benchmade Mini-Grip and have never looked back. It made the handle even more comfortable.

I unclipped my small Sebenza and carry it in the CRK pocket pouch.

It is far more comfortable for carry and use, but less accessable. That's the price you pay for being discreet.

the only time i use the clip is to clip in inside a backpack, case, etc...i just never liked the idea of clipping to a pocket...i'm definitely the discreet type...

I used to clip mine to a pocket, but dropped a few knives climbing in and out of my truck so I just put them in my pocket now

I don't use the pocket clips but I don't remove them either. I figure I may run into a situation where the clip may come in handy so I just leave it on. Besides, if I removed the clip and wanted to put it back I know I would misplace it.

Ah some like minded people, I can't stand clips. Depending on the knife and clip design plus location the first thing I usually do is take that annoying ergonomic wrecking nuisance off and put it in a plastic cup full of its buddies. The only one I've left on so far is the clip on my Buck Mayo TNT as it is small, well located properly designed. I still don't use the clip as all I do is pocket carry. Even my swimsuit has pockets so the clip is just an annoyance, distraction and knife loosing helper from my view. Put that knife in the bottom of your pocket where its least like to fall out of.

I used to go clipless back in the day. Now I can't stand having some bulky thing floating around in my pocket, drives me nuts!

Now I won't carry a folder that dosn't have a clip. Pluss it especialy comes in handy if you don't have pockets, since you can clip it on anywere. -wich can also make it more discreet, you can clip it to the inside of your waistband instead of haveing a bulgeing knife imprint in your pocket.

Also I like to have quick-draw access to my edc knife. -but hey, to each his own right!

I've never really liked the 'rudely bolted on' appearance of clips on knives, but I leave them on nevertheless. I have a bunch of Spydercos, which I carry tip-up clipped inside my right front pocket. One thing that I've come to like, with the clip in this position, is that the clip itself gives me a perfect leverage point for my ring and pinkie finger when I lever the blade open with my thumb. It's especially helpful with the knives that are a bit small (less than 4 inches closed) and also with knives that have relatively smooth handles. It feels more secure in my grip this way, in preventing the handle from slipping in my grip when quickly thumbing the blade open. And, even more so with thumb-studded blades; they tend to feel even less secure (for me) without the leverage point provided by a well-positioned clip.

If the knife design and size are such that I'm not going to use the clip, I remove it. Those darn clips can get a mite uncomfortable when they get in the wrong position in the pocket.

I took it off my native because it kept catching on things and bending. It was a poor clip, so I took it off and now my native is my go to knife.

Clips make a good knife look ugly. I only have two knives with clips ....small Sebenza and a Lone Wolf T2. Got rid of clip on every other knive I have.

those of you who just drop the knife in thier pocket, isn't it bothersome when the knife turns sideways so the top and butt end of the knife make a huge print right in the middle of your thigh? i wouldnt mind carrying a knife in my pocket if it stayed upright
otherwise, i use the clips

That's exactly my thinking :D

It's also why I refuse to carry a SAK unless it's in a belt pouch. I keep my EDC clipped to my front right pocket and any multi-tool in a belt pouch.

I take it off if the knife does not allow tip-up carry. Example is Spyderco Para-military or Military. Awesome knives, but hate the tip-down only pocket clips. In pocket with a lanyard is the way they are carried.

I live in Chicago, so all my carry knives have blades two inches or shorter.. I've found that that most of them fit perfectly without a clip in the small pocket on the right hand side of a pair of jeans. Anything larger than that falls sideways in the regular pocket and is uncomfortable to carry.

I use the clips. Having lost quite a few flashlights without clips, I don't want to do so with knives...

I love clips because all my pants/shorts are the perfect height. If I drop my hand down to my side its a perfect fit for my thumb and index finger to go right around the knife.
