Semantics...... a knife is a weapon. Tool? Perceived intent is important however. The terrorists in the planes on 9-11 used utility knives that were perfectly legal to be carried on an airline. The TSA rules changed pretty quickly not that I approve. If you carry a knife as a student in most schools, it is viewed as a weapon. My grandson watched two girls cut them selves up in the middle school hall with their "tools". Both went to jail.

We aren't talking about screw drivers or Honda Civics. This is a knife forum. But sometimes it's handy to make an analogy.

To say that someone carrying a 9" bowie knife in an urban environment is a tool is foolish. Carrying the same bowie knife in the woods would not raise as many or any eye brows. No, they don't necessarily know the state or local laws. They are doing what they feel like. Until joining BF, I suspected what the state laws were, but I didn't know. I wasn't interested enough to find out quite frankly.

The very definition of a weapon implies intent. A knife is an inanimate object until it is used, or planned to be used, in a violent way.

So Charlie mikes a fool, ok got it. Those who cant legally carry a firearm to safeguard their lives can still have the god given right to defend themselves. CM carries a blade for this purpose and I don't think he is a fool. I guess our opinions differ.

You can dislike my analogy all day but it stands true both vehicles and knives are multi purpose potentially deadly weapons. Ask any LEO.

I was quoting you for the area I bolded. That is why I bolded it. You are not the first person in this thread to say that fixed blades are viewed as more scary even if you did add the same size/style. I dont expect you to concede anything. Again, the second paragraph was directed at the whole thread not just you. I think you may need a break from forums in general to make some friends and learn to be a little more friendly and tactful with your conversational skills.

Again, we're disagreeing. I honestly thought it was relatively lively, but amicable debate. If I hurt your feelings I apologize, but you're the one who's bringing personal attacks into the conversation. Twice, now. I wasn't trying to be facetious or condescending when I recommended the ignore option. Sometimes people rub each other the wrong way, if I'm irritating you, throw me on ignore and save a bit of a headache.

Shinyedges, you always like to bring up CM. I did not mention anything about him. If you read my words, I said "foolish" and I don't know CM other than what I see on BF.

Your statement called him a fool as well as myself and many other guys here who carry fixed blades. So yea you did.
You always like to bring up CM. I did not mention anything about him.

Keep in mind that murder statistics involving knives in the US are largely domestics involving kitchen knives.

See my added statement above. I don't believe I called anyone a fool. This is not personal. It is about the sense of carrying a fixed blade of varying size in an urban environment.

About cars... Years ago, my forums signature said something like:

"My brother's car has killed more people than my knife"

... After he was sentenced for vehicular manslaughter while DUI.

Semantics, you made a statement that called what many guys on bladeforums do foolish. I don't think a belt knife being worn in town is foolish at all. Furthermore I don't believe exercising constitutional rights is foolish either. Educating people as to what rights they have is never a bad thing. That said tact is extremely important as well.

Unfortunately fools don't understand or grasp the concept that ANY and EVERY thing can be used as weapons.

Another thing they are completely ignorant of is criminals don't give a damn what the law says. Only law abiding citizens follow the law. Rocket science, I know.

And here's you calling someone else a fool.

OK? I stand behind my statement. Report it if you must. It is no more finger pointing at anyone than 22 rimfires post so report equally :)
And here's you calling someone else a fool.
