Well as the title goes "I've gone and done it"!!! I ordered my first Strider today. I've had other (what I call expensive) production knives but this is my first Strider. I haven't even held one in person, wtf!! I ordered an SMF with the OD green handle. Can't wait till it comes in around the middle of the week!!! Early birthday present to myself I guess.

Good for you. Excellent knife, although it can be a little too big for comfort, depending on your hand size.

Well I have a ZT0302 at the moment and to be quiet honest the handle feels a bit cramped.

Yeah the SMF is a heck of a knife. I held an SNG and while I don't have gigantic hands I still just find it too small for comfort. You'll enjoy the SMF, it's the right size.

With this famous statement I contest "Houston, we have a problem"!! It seems to be from what I've read at another knife forum that the Strider that I just purchased may be a fake! If I post up a picture from the auction could anyone help me determine this? I'd like to know before it gets here as I think I'll be covered under the Buyers Protection plan through eBay if it's not. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!!!

Yeah I've been scrolling through pages and pages of Strider pics over at USN and I haven't seen one like it either. Kinda sucks because I liked the knife well enough to drop a good bit of cash on it!!

It looks like the Real Mcoy but Im not positive. A different handle/blade

combo for a custom Strider thou.

Yeah over at USN they just informed me that it looked like someone had taken a SMF and reworked it. If that's the case then the warranty is void and makes it a deal breaker for me!

Contact the maker, if its a fake they will know and would be happy to know they are out there so they can try stop them.

Well here we go; it is a fake for sure. The seller just emailed me and stated that it's a customized Strider that he had done in his shop and doesn't think that he has done anything wrong. I tried to explain that there is a difference in a customized Strider and a Strider Custom. Now is where I come to the decision of what I need to do!

I've owned and viewed several Striders and I have never seen that configuration. BUT, Strider makes alot of customs in various configurations. The things that look suspect are:
1. The Strider Stamp
2. The Hinderer LockStop
3. The Blade Finish

BUT, as I said the guys at Strider are always doing new designs, so I would not rule it out. For the money you are spending I would for sure get Strider's approval. Lets just hope they can tell you from looking at the pic and not have to inspect it physically.

So is it an authentic Strider and he just did his own thing to it?

There is a huge difference in a "customized" strider and a mick strider custom... about oh... 1000 dollars or so....

From what I gathered with his email was it started out as a new Strider SMF and he customized it in his shop. I really hate the whole situation because I like the knife. The killer for me is the Strider warranty or lack of. Since this has been modified its warranty is VOID. I'm not trying to beat the guy up or anything but it's just not what I thought I was buying.

How much did you pay for it?

Warranty is void for sure, but if he has a reasonable price it still maybe worth picking up
